Jebe nas pre svega brzina preko jednog kruga, a u nesto manjoj meri i generalno brzina u trci.

Has) to ostaje da vidimo.

McLaren clarify James Key arrival and plan for more off-track signings

Could McLaren use a driver as a makeweight in deal with Toro Rosso to finally bring respected technical chief on board?

By Matt Morlidge

McLaren claim they have a plan to break their deadlock with Toro Rosso over the signing of technical director James Key, admitting they would be open to sweetening the deal in order to get him on board earlier.

And team chief Zak Brown has stressed "we're not done yet" in hiring talent as McLaren continue their exhaustive rebuilding behind the scenes.

McLaren confirmed the signing of highly-respected technical guru Key ahead of last month's Hungarian GP, though Toro Rosso insisted the Englishman had a contract, believed to be until 2020, to respect.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko even said Key would not leave the junior team "for a very long time" after claiming McLaren jumped the gun with their announcement.

But while Brown admitted the Woking team did not yet have a start date for Key, he maintained the move would go ahead as intended.

"We have hired James Key and he will become our technical director," Brown told reporters. "He does have a current agreement with Toro Rosso and of course we respect contractual situations.

"I think Toro Rosso and Red Bull are understandably upset that they're losing a great talent like James Key.

"We have a plan, we obviously knew his current employment situation and we're completely comfortable working around that situation."

Brown stated McLaren would consider their options with regards to a compensation agreement with Toro Rosso in a bid to secure Key's arrival earlier, potentially involving a financial settlement or using a driver as a makeweight.

Toro Rosso have been interested in McLaren young driver Lando Norris, who may still be available for 2019 despite the potential of the 18-year-old staying put to partner Carlos Sainz.

"In the world of F1 there's always ways and opportunities to change situations," Brown said. "That's certainly something that we'd potentially consider."

McLaren have made several changes to their backroom team in recent months as they bid to move up the F1 grid after a disappointing start to 2018, with technical chief Tim Goss and team principal Eric Boullier both leaving their roles this season.

Engineering chief Matt Morris' departure, meanwhile, was confirmed in the same statement announcing Key's arrival.

Gil de Ferran has joined as sporting director while Andrea Stella is now the performance director, and Brown says there are more signings to be made after the coup of landing Key.

"We're not done yet, both in bringing in talent and with our final structure," the CEO of McLaren Racing explained.

He continued: "We have a good sense of what we're going to do but that's not something that we want to make public, we just want to put our head down and get on with the job."

Key will spearhead a new-look technical team but with his start date unknown, there are still doubts over who will be leading the design and development of McLaren's 2019 car.

"We have some other things we are doing in the technical department so I think that will become clear later in the year," added Brown, while De Ferran stressed: "The key here is that it's a team effort.

"There's a lot of talented guys that you probably don't know, up and down the organisation. We are reorganising, bringing the team together and making sure there is more clarity and there is more communication.

"We can't share all the details of everything we're doing in-house to get to where we want to go, but there is a plan and as we move forward it will become clearer to everyone."

McLaren has added more sponsors than any other team in 2018 – Brown
2018 F1 season
22nd August 2018, 8:21
Dieter Rencken and Keith Collantine

McLaren Group CEO Zak Brown says he has hit his target for increasing sponsorship revenue and the team has brought in more new backers than any of its Formula 1 rivals.

However he admitted the team faces a significant shortfall in its budget for this season.

“Our performance hasn’t helped,” he told RaceFans in an exclusive interview. “And especially don’t forget this year you sell last year, so last year was one of the worst years,” he added. McLaren finished ninth in the constructors’ championship last year.

However Brown said he’s “hit my number” in terms of the amount of revenue he needed to bring in from sponsorship.

“I’ve hit what I said I would do. And then we’ve got to keep growing it. The car has got lots of space, it started with lots of space. The companies we’ve put on have been outstanding: Dell Technologies, Petrobras, being high-quality entities, and we’re keeping pushing.”

Brown said the extent of advertising on the car doesn’t necessarily reflect how lucrative the deals have been.

“There’s a perception that goes back 10, 20 years of stickers on the cars, which is that ‘We’ll equate the size of what the sticker on the car is to what we think the money is’. That just isn’t the case these days. And certainly not for us. Because the partnerships run a lot deeper than just straightforward a logo on the car.”

Brown: “I’ve hit what I said I would do”

“If you’re measuring off outward activation, if that sponsor’s primary objectives are something like a [business-to-business] or employees’ engagement, you’re not necessarily going to see that,” he explained.

“We don’t festoon the car with logos, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we don’t have substantive, long-term partners onboard.”

Acquiring new sponsors in F1 is challenging for all teams and the sport’s promoters, said Brown.

“Fortunately we’ve got very, very committed shareholders who also understand Formula One hasn’t really announced a sponsor. They’ve done some media. We haven’t seen a new trackside partner.

“Ferrari’s done one deal. Mercedes has traded one deal. So I think fortunately our shareholders and myself know that it’s not going to… it just doesn’t happen.

“I know that’s my background and therefore everyone is expecting every inch of the car to be sold. The reality is we have done five deals, put aside Kimoa. I haven’t seen another team do more than two. So we are deliberating.”

I opet cu se usrati. :twak: :ajme:

The challenges facing McLaren's 2019 Fernando Alonso IndyCar plan
By David Malsher
Published on Thursday August 23rd 2018

McLaren's progress towards a 2019 IndyCar entry with double Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso remains "a really fluid situation", according to one of its potential partner teams.

With under a month until the end of the 2018 IndyCar Series season, the date and venue of Alonso's first road course test - and first run anywhere in the current car - is yet to be ascertained, according to McLaren, its '17 Indianapolis 500 partner Andretti Autosport and IndyCar.

Andretti Autosport team owner Michael Andretti told Autosport that the Alonso test plan is "not yet decided", while IndyCar's president of competitions and operations Jay Frye confirmed he had received "no notification of an Alonso test".

One complication regarding any future collaboration between McLaren and Honda-powered Andretti Autosport is that Honda Performance Development president Art St Cyr claims HPD has been "operating near maximum capacity" supplying 12 full-time IndyCar entries this year.

McLaren may therefore have to run Chevrolet engines should it enter the series for anything more than another one-off Indy 500 entry.

A tie-up with Chevy could possibly involve taking over the Harding Racing programme (pictured above), which is known to be struggling financially, or partnering with Ed Carpenter Racing.

But team owner/driver Ed Carpenter said he is not even thinking about a McLaren tie-up until the situation becomes clearer, and is focused on re-signing current team-mates Spencer Pigot and Jordan King.

"The whole McLaren to IndyCar situation seems really fluid right now," Carpenter told Autosport.

"Personally I think they're still trying to decide what they want to do and how to do it, so until they figure out their side, it's hard to know what will happen.

"I'm more focused on finishing out our season and getting deals done with our guys, than any potential new projects that are full of speculation and unknowns."

Autosport understands there is a still a provisional plan in place for Alonso to test Harding's Dallara-Chevrolet at Barber Motorsports Park on September 5 but that, despite the apparent conflict of interest between engine manufacturers, it would be an Andretti Autosport-run test.

McLaren's communications director Tim Bampton insisted there had been no firm decision and there would be "no running commentary" on the IndyCar process.

"Our stance remains what we've said the past couple of months, which is that we're going to continue to evaluate IndyCar but our prime focus is on Formula 1," he said.

"There's been a lot of noise about IndyCar but we don't want to further contribute to that; when we've got something to say, we'll say it. The team still needs to make a decision.

"If we were to enter IndyCar, it wouldn't be just to give Fernando something to do. It would be a long-term commitment because we believe in the series and because the US market is an important one for the McLaren Group as a whole.

642d4a745c8be1086c6f7912f42c612a.jpg

"I know the situation is frustrating for people, for fans, but there are many permutations.

"First and most important is: do we do IndyCar at all? Then, do we do just the Indy 500 next year and delay a full-time campaign until 2020? Do we come in full-time next year?

"Is it just Fernando that we enter, or is it Fernando plus one?"

McLaren is known to have approached both Will Power and Scott Dixon as possible 2019 team-mates for Alonso, but they have signed multi-year agreements with respective current employers Penske and Ganassi.

Alonso is already committed to the Toyota LMP1 team up to the end of the 2018/19 World Endurance Championship superseason at next year's Le Mans 24 Hours.

But the WEC calendar does not have any clashes with the 2019 IndyCar schedule that is set to be finalised and released soon.

The other thing about McLaren is that the team urgently needs someone to look after the design of the 2019 car, as Matt Morris has departed and James Key cannot join before the winter. The word is that the team may be shopping around for a consultant designer to take on the task. Expect an announcement soon.

Bice maximlno izlozeni ucjenam iz RBR/STR.
