Nasli su gremlina:

Toyota's staggering loss in the final minutes of the 84th 24 Hours of Le Mans with the No. 5 TS050 Hybrid was due a turbocharger-related issue, according to the Japanese brand.

The report from Toyota Gazoo Racing matches what RACER overheard immediately following the event in Le Mans, and while the wording is somewhat vague, it appears the piping between one of the twin-turbo V6's turbos and intercoolers became disconnected.

"Car #5 suffered a technical defect on a connector on the air line between the turbo charger and the intercooler, causing a loss of turbo charger control," the team confirmed.

With that intercooler-to-turbo connection broken, a drastic and immediate loss in power would follow. Within the electronic engine control unit, numerous alarms and possible failsafe modes would likely be triggered to save the engine from perceived failure, which would explain driver Kazuki Nakajima slowing to a stop on the front straight.

"The team attempted to modify the control settings to restore power and this was eventually achieved, allowing the car to complete the final lap," the report continued. Just as Toyota's CEO vowed to return and fight for its first win at Le Mans, the Germany-based Toyota Gazoo Racing team has pledged to find the exact reason behind the No. 5's failure and prevent a future repeat.

"Currently it is not clear exactly why this failure occurred as we have verified the process used to produce the part here in Cologne," TGR said. "Further analysis is required to determine the root cause.

"Comprehensive investigations are underway at TMG to determine the precise reason for this issue with the aim of establishing countermeasures to avoid any repeat in the future."

Nije WEC ali bolje ovde pasuje nego na temi o Indikaru:

Gabby Chaves will join Katherine Legge and former Indy Lights driver Sean Rayhall in the Panoz DeltaWing for the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen.

After a two-day test at the newly repaved Watkins Glen track in May, team manager Tim Keen decided to add another driver, and Chaves, who drove the DeltaWing in all Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup races in 2014, was available with a break in the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule.

It was pretty clear straightaway that we would need to add a third driver to the lineup as it was so physically demanding that even doing one full stint was going to take a toll on the drivers," team manager Tim Keene said. "We are pleased to have Gabby back for this event."

Chaves helped test the DeltaWing two weeks ago during a test at Road Atlanta, during which the crew tested some new components and Chaves got reacquainted with the car.

"I'm really excited and looking forward to joining the team once again," said Chaves, who will turn 23 July 7. "The car has looked extremely competitive with all the development over the last year, and I can't wait to see what we can do in the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen. I really believe the car, drivers and crew can pull off the win!"

Several teams from the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship tested at the 3.4-mile track in May and lauded the possibility of several grooves, high-speed corners and a higher level of grip, with track records expected to fall. Forty-two cars are set to compete June 30-July 3.

"We've had a few test days to sort some things out since Mazda Raceway and I feel like they've been very productive," Rayhall said. "I'm excited to drive with Gabby since we grew up racing karts and junior formulas together and believe we have a great team and car set for the race."

Manorov prototip broj 44, upamtite taj broj! 44!!!

Dok nas iščekuje kiša meteora pod nazivom "kiša Perseida", ona će samo biti uvertira tj. najava za nešto veće i spektakularnije- kišu ugljeničnih vlakana!!! Ona će najviše biti vidljiva početkom sledećeg meseca i to u predelu Meksiko Sitija. Opširnije na ovom linku.

Mazda unveils Daytona Prototype for 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship
Mazda RT24-P to make racing debut at Rolex 24 at Daytona
November 16, 2016

Mazda confirmed a two-car Daytona Prototype international (DPi) program at the LA Auto Show on Wednesday and unveiled its new race car, which will compete full-time in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Prototype class beginning in 2017.

The South Florida-based SpeedSource Race Engineering will manage the two-car program on behalf of Mazda Motorsports. The pair of Mazda RT24-P race cars will be driven by Jonathan Bomarito, Tristan Nunez, Tom Long and Joel Miller.

Mazda’s new DPi program is the next chapter in a lengthy history of prototype racing in IMSA. The manufacturer has fielded a two-car, factory-supported team since the inception of the WeatherTech Championship after previously supporting prototype and GT race cars in both the American Le Mans Series and GRAND-AM. Most recently, the manufacturer utilized a Lola LM P2 chassis and four-cylinder, turbocharged engine in the WeatherTech Championship.

“This is a huge moment for Mazda Motorsports and the entire Mazda family,” said John Doonan, director of Mazda Motorsports North America. “To have a car which features Mazda design language at the top level of our motorsports program is meaningful for us as a brand. We believe we have the right team, the right drivers and the right chassis to win races and championships.

“This new DPi race car reaffirms Mazda’s longstanding commitment to IMSA and the WeatherTech Championship,” said IMSA president Scott Atherton. “This first public unveiling of a DPi is the culmination of several months of collaboration between Mazda, the Riley/Multimatic partnership and IMSA. This car is nothing short of breathtaking, and represents a benchmark example of the vision we have for how manufacturers incorporate their production car design elements into a prototype race car. We eagerly anticipate its competition debut in the Rolex 24 at Daytona this coming January.”

The new DPi car -- dubbed the “Mazda RT24-P” in a nod to the manufacturer’s “Mazda Road to 24” driver development program -- will use the Mazda MZ-2.0T four-cylinder, turbocharged engine producing approximately 600 horsepower and a Riley/Multimatic prototype chassis with specially designed Mazda bodywork. The bodywork utilizes Mazda’s KODO-Soul of Motion design philosophy and will include elements such as body contours and a five-point Mazda grille.

“KODO design is at the heart of any vehicle that carries a Mazda badge, and that is very evident in the design of the 2017 prototype,” said Ken Saward, senior manager of design at Mazda Design Americas. “We considered the two main parameters of designing a successful race car for this series: aerodynamic performance and the new-for-2017 technical regulations. Working with Multimatic’s aerodynamicist and engineers, we discovered that applying the KODO design philosophy to the surfaces and the silhouette of the car enabled us to create a dynamic, purposeful-looking design and a very aerodynamically efficient one.”

The team will begin on-track testing later this month in preparation for the 2017 WeatherTech Championship season, which begins on Jan. 28-29 with the 55th Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Mazda joins Nissan as confirmed DPi manufacturers for IMSA’s top Prototype class, which also will include international LM P2 prototype chassis from Riley/Multimatic, Ligier, ORECA and Dallara, powered by single-specification Gibson V8 engines.
