Evo malo anfoa:

Rendezvous with Rama (2006)

Release Date: TBA 2006 (this comes from a report that was sent to AICN by Grant Boucher, who is working as a technial consultant on the project; originally mentioned as a possible October, 2003 release)

Distributor: Currently seeking distribution in the USA.

Distributor Note: (11/19/02) Polygram Films was attached at one point, before they went out of business. "Variety" reported this week that Paramount Pictures has a first-look deal on this project.

Production Company: Revelations Entertainment (Morgan Freeman's), with Intel (yes, the computer company) as digital technology partners

Cast: Morgan Freeman; other cast not announced yet.

Director: David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, The Game, Alien3; next up before this are Panic Room and Seared; he's also got Hard Boiled and Squids in development)

Conceptual Artist: Jean "Moebius" Giraud (Masters of the Universe, Willow, The Abyss; he's also got Thru the Moebius Strip coming in 2003)

Screenwriter: Scott Brick (debut) (first draft); rewrite by Bruce McKenna (debut; wrote/cowrote three episodes of HBO's Band of Brothers)

Based Upon: The novel of the same title by Arthur C. Clarke (2001: A Space Odyssey, The Hammer of God, upon which Deep Impact was based). The novel was followed by three sequels (which ostensibly, could become also movies someday?): Rama II, Garden of Rama, and Rama Revealed.

Premise: When a giant alien spaceship, Rama, is discovered in 2130 to be heading directly for our sun, a team of astronauts (led by Freeman) aboard the spaceship, Endeavor, is sent to investigate. What they discover is an organic world inside Rama...

Filming:

2/11/01 - There is no production date for this project, but Revelations Entertainment is hoping David Fincher will make this his next project after Panic Room, which suggests a start date in early 2002. Considering the scope of this project, that's probably also the latest it could start and still make a late 2003 release. Fincher will be using digital video cameras rather than Panavision. (8/25/01) With David Fincher reportedly expecting to make Seared his next, there's no current word about how that will effect the production schedule of this very compllicated film. (4/10/02) There is no production start date for this project, and probably won't be until Fincher and the producers settle upon a workable script to work from.

Special Effects Note: Slide 10 of the official site, as of 3/17/01, seems to suggest that the film is completely CGI, like Final Fantasy, but producer Lori McCready cleared this up over at a.fincher.news.site, explaining just exactly what the FX and digital production will entail.

Genre: Eye Candy, Science Fiction, Thriller

Unofficial Director Fan Sites: DavidFincher.net, a.fincher.news.site (the former site is probably the most complete generally, but the latter site has more specifically about this film, as of 3/17/01)

Script Review: Corona (if that isn't it, scroll down to the bottom, click on the archives, then on February 18th, 2002)
