Kosovo’s Parliament Adopts MDGs
17 October 2008 Pristina _ Kosovo’s parliament on Friday ratified the Millennium Declaration that was adopted by UN member states in 2000, and outlines the eight millennium development goals, or MDGs.
In a special session of the Parliament, the country’s senior leaders said the implementation of the MDGs will promote social and economic development, and ease Kosovo’s integration into international structures. The Parliament called on the government to commit itself to fulfilling the MDGs.
“Today’s decision will be greeted by the United Nations. Our new state is very poor, with a lot of inherited problems in education, the health system and other sectors,” said Kosovo’s premier, Hashim Thaci.
The parliamentary speaker, Jakup Krasniqi, said the signing of the declaration will enhance Kosovo’s development.
The eight MDGs synthesise, in a single package, many of the most important development commitments made separately at international conferences, and commit signatories to reduce or eradicate the main barriers to countries' development such as poverty, disease, infant mortality, gender inequality, illiteracy and environmental degradation.
Parliamentarians chose to sign the declaration to mark the ninth month of the country's independence.

Press Release No. 08/179
July 15, 2008
On July 10, 2008, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) received an application for admission to membership in the IMF from the Republic of Kosovo. In the context of this application, it has been determined that Kosovo has seceded from Serbia as a new independent state and that Serbia is the continuing state. Accordingly, Serbia continues its membership in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and retains all of its quota in the Fund, and all assets in, and liabilities to, the IMF.
The application for admission to membership in the IMF from Kosovo will be considered in due course.
Under the IMF's prescribed procedures for membership applications, the application must first be investigated by the IMF's Executive Board. After its investigation, the Executive Board submits a report to the Board of Governors of the IMF with recommendations in the form of a Membership Resolution. These recommendations cover the amount of quota in the IMF, the form of payment of the subscription, and other customary terms and conditions of membership. After the Board of Governors has adopted the Membership Resolution, the applicant country may become a member once it has taken the legal steps required under its law to enable it to sign the IMF's Articles of Agreement and to fulfill the obligations of IMF membership.
The IMF currently has 185 member countries.

Evo kvote drzava u MMF:
http://www.imf.org/e...dir/members.htm
