Mislim, McLaren i sledeće godine?

Sato bathing in respect from peers after 500 win
Monday, 29 May 2017
By Marshall Pruett / Images by Pruett, IMS Photo

Sebastien Bourdais wasn't exactly sure how he was regarded by his fellow drivers until he survived a hellacious crash during qualifying. Known for being prickly at times, the Frenchman soon learned the respect he'd earned as a champion driver and as an unflinching advocate for driver safety had resonated throughout the field. It was made clear by the endless stream of visitors to his hospital bed, and later, to his rehabilitation facility.
Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi were first on the scene, then Tony Kanaan, and from there, it was a blur as almost the entire field of 33 stopped in to pay their respect and show support.
Takuma Sato went through the same respect-based reality check on his cool-down lap and slow drive into the Indy 500's Victory Lane on Sunday. Fans cheered with great heart and enthusiasm. Teams applauded and gave a hundred thumbs up. And like Bourdais, drivers – the ones he just beat on IndyCar's most important day of the year – streamed in to share their love and sense of community for Sato's career-defining result.

Takuma Sato gets a hug from Tony Kanaan

"Yes, I think that really showed ... talk about what IndyCar is like," he said with that patented, infectious smile. "It is extremely, extremely tight competition out there on track, but you can see we care each other because that's [what it's] all about in sport, and not only for the racing.

"I know everybody is working on it by their own program, and things happen like [with] Sebastien, and we are heavily concerned with [Scott] Dixon's accident yesterday, and it was such a relief he got out of the car, and we all think about Sebastien has a speedy recovery. It's a great union, I think, so everybody cares."

With his persona as IndyCar's Mr. Bean set aside for now, Sato's heartfelt reaction to winning the Indy 500 and all the admiration that's followed has been like a second victory for the Japanese veteran.

And when his former team owner A.J. Foyt turned up to say nice things Sunday afternoon, he knew something special had taken place.

"It was nice to see everyone really cheering on me and congrats to me yesterday, including a lot of team owners, and including A.J.," he said. "That is very nice. I feel very, very lucky. I feel really, really appreciated."

Sato earns $2.45 million for Indianapolis 500 win

IMS / Image by Marshall Pruett

Takuma Sato earned $2,458,129 from an overall purse of $13,178,359 for his victory Sunday in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500.

Sato became the first Japanese winner of the Indianapolis 500, fending off three-time winner Helio Castroneves by 0.2011s to the checkered flag in the No. 26 Andretti Autosport Honda. This was the sixth-closest finish in Indy 500 history.

Sato took the lead from Castroneves for good on Lap 195 of the 200-lap race. He led twice for 17 laps.

Castroneves, who dodged multiple on-track incidents and led nine laps even after receiving a drive-through penalty, earned $770,629 for finishing second in the No. 3 Shell Fuel Rewards Chevrolet. He became one of seven drivers with three Indianapolis 500 runner-up finishes.

Toward the end of the race, Castroneves had to worry about third-place finisher, rookie driver Ed Jones, in his rear-view mirror. Jones never led in the race but ended up as the top rookie finisher in the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Honda, earning $535,629.

Max Chilton, who led a race-high 50 laps, finished in fourth place in the No. 8 Gallagher Honda. He earned $484,129.

Rounding out the top five was 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan in the No. 10 NTT Data Honda. Kanaan, who led 22 laps, earned $438,129.

Polesitter Scott Dixon earned $446,629 despite placing 32nd in the No. 9 Camping World Honda. Dixon was unhurt after a frightening crash with Jay Howard on Lap 53 in which Dixon's car went airborne and hit the inside SAFER Barrier between Turns 1 and 2.

Fernando Alonso earned $305,805, including $50,000 for being named Sunoco Rookie of the Year. Two-time Formula 1 world champion Alonso was the top-qualifying rookie, in fifth, and led 27 laps – more than any other rookie – before ending up 24th after an engine failure on Lap 180 halted his race while running seventh in the No. 29 McLaren-Honda-Andretti Honda.

A columnist who tweeted that he was “very uncomfortable” with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 on Memorial Day Weekend has been fired.

Denver Post publisher Mac Tully and editor Lee Ann Colacioppo issued a statement on Monday describing the tweet from its columnist Terry Frei as “disrespectful and unacceptable” and said that Frei is no longer an employee of the newspaper.

Takuma Sato’s victory for Andretti Autosport-Honda last Sunday was the first win for a Japanese driver in the 101-year history of the Indianapolis 500. Sato was also the first Japanese driver to win an IndyCar race, when he triumphed at Long Beach in 2013, driving for AJ Foyt Racing.

Frei’s tweet in reaction to Sato's Indy victory read: “Nothing specifically personal, but I am very uncomfortable with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend.”

It triggered a huge backlash on social media, and although Frei later deleted the tweet and issued a lengthy apology, he was let go anyway.

The statement from Tully and Colacioppo read: “We apologize for the disrespectful and unacceptable tweet that was sent by one of our reporters.

"Terry Frei is no longer an employee of The Denver Post.

"It’s our policy not to comment further on personnel issues.

"The tweet doesn’t represent what we believe nor what we stand for. We hope you will accept our profound apologies.”

I WW2 i Japancima. Mada ni on ni Sato nemaju nista sa WW2 sem procitanih knjiga i odgledanih filmova. Nista drugacije od Ratka Mladica koji se ubijajuci Bosance "osvecivao" Turcima za izgubljene bitke iz 18. i 19. veka.

Nije taj reporter jedina americka budala.

Zivim u obalnom gradu u Texasu, Corpus Christi.

troll off
