With the rescheduled opening round of the second Formula E season and a few question marks on the calendar, there is no confirmation about how exactly the season two calendar of the all-electric racing series will look like. ElectricAutosport.com sums up the developments and previews the possibilities for future seasons.
The second Beijing ePrix has been postponed by one week after the Chinese Governmentmade a request. Another event takes place in the Olympic Stadium and that conflicts with the Formula E event.
Looking at the calendar reveals a blank spot on the 19th of March. Everyone expected that Mexico would appear on the schedule as there are great links between the series and the country and rumours started already in August 2014 when selected media, including ElectricAutosport.com, found the city on DHL banners. One of the Formula E teams recently published an illustration that includes the Mexican city (and the image got deleted).
Another possible candidate remains the removed Miami venue, or would Formula E surprise with a not yet announced city?
The Swiss city Lugano is in the race to host an event in May 2016, between the rounds in Paris and Berlin. A consortium that includes Jarno Trulli, co-owner of the Trulli Formula E team, has exclusive rights for the region until the end of September to close the deal. When they fail to raise ten million euro before that time, the event might go to another city. The question is not if, but when a Swiss ePrix will be organised.
The London ePrix date is still a question mark. It’s originally scheduled in the end of June, which classes with the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone. If that goes ahead, it might implicate a loss of television audience. Another date is being looked at, but Battersea Park is almost fully booked with other events.
Future seasons
180 cities have expressed an interest in staging a race. ElectricAutosport.com believes there are a few on Formula E’s shortlist. In Asia we soon might find Hong Kong back on the calendar as it once was in the early stages of preparing the inaugural season. Some say that an announcement might follow this year. That would implicate that Hong Kong will be featured on the calendar of season three, with the event likely to be held in October.
Montreal’s Mayor Denis Coderre is pushing to get the all-electric racing series in the centre of his city. A deal seems imminent and the ePrix might take place in the beginning of season three.
In addition to Lugano, Brussels is well on track to secure a spot on the calendar. Although it has great competition from Swiss cities and the ePrix’ in Berlin, London, Monaco (biannually), Moscow and Paris, officials of the Belgian city are pushing forwards.
Other cities and areas where Formula E is keen to race are Tokyo in Japan, India (season 3) and Australia (season 4 or 5). But for sure the Middle-East and Africa are being looked at as well in order to create a truly world championship.

...One of the Formula E teams recently published an illustration that includes the Mexican city (and the image got deleted) - Misle na Venturi.
