2017_I500_18Logo_1600x800.jpg

Do sada prijavljeni:

#1 Dzozef Njugarden, Penski - Sevrolet: Aktuelni sampion Indikar serije i trenutno vodeci u poretku sampionata, do sada najbolji rezultat ovde jedno 3. mesto.

Indi.

#4 Mateus Lajst, Fojt - Sevrolet: Mladi 19-ogodisnji ruki nekadasnji sampion britanske F3, prosle godine 4. u Indi Lajt sampionatu, videcemo koliko moze i koliko zna.

#13 Danika Patrik, Karpenter - Sevrolet: Povratak Patrikove u Indikar bice ujedno i njena oprostajna trka.

#15 Grem Rehol, RLL - Honda: Sin legende Bobija vozi u porodicnom timu, dugo godina neostvaren talenat, zadnjih par sezona njegova karijera dozivljava preporod. Najbolji rezultat na Indiju 3. mesto.

#17 Konor Dejli, DCR - Honda: Sin bivseg F1 vozaca Dereka, izgubio mesto na Indikar gridu zbog nedostatka novca ali ipak ce dobiti priliku na Indi 500. Do sada bez znacajnijih rezultata.

#18 Sebastijan Borde, DCR - Honda: Cetvorostruki sampion, bivsi F1 vozac, prosle godine u kvalifikacijama doziveo tesku nesrecu.

#25 Stefan Vilson, Andreti - Honda: Brat tragicno nastradalog Dzastina, prosle godine ustupio svoje mesto Fernandu Alonsu.

Nepotvrdjeni ucesnici:

Badi Lazir, Lazir - Sevrolet(?)

Ipak, najveca zvezda ovogodisnjeg Indija bice apsolutno spektakularan novi Indikar bolid:

IndyCar%201.jpg

newindycar-960x510.jpg

2019 Corvette ZR1 to pace 102nd Indy 500
Thursday, 19 April 2018
IMS

2018_I500_PaceCar01_1600x800a.jpg

The 2019 Corvette ZR1 is the official Pace Car for the 2018 Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil and will lead drivers to the green flag Sunday, May 27 for the 102nd Running of the legendary race.

It marks the 15th time a Corvette has served as the official Pace Car, starting in 1978, and the 29th time a Chevrolet has led the field, dating back to 1948, when a 1948 Fleetmaster Six convertible paced the race.

No other vehicle has served as the Pace Car more than the Corvette. To celebrate the iconic supercar's connection to "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing," the 2019 Corvette ZR1 and the other 14 Corvettes that have paced the "500" were on display on the front straightaway today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

"Chevrolet is proud to once again pace the Indianapolis 500," said Steve Majoros, marketing director for Cars and Crossovers. "The ZR1 is the most powerful and fastest Corvette ever made. It's the perfect choice to pace 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.'"

The 2019 Corvette ZR1 Pace Car features:

• LT5 small block 6.2L supercharged V8 engine with 755-hp and 715 lb.-ft. of torque
• 8-speed 8L90 paddle-shift automatic transmission
• ZTK Performance Package, which features a stanchion-mounted adjustable carbon-fiber high rear wing, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and performance suspension
• Magnetic Selective Ride Control
• Brembo Carbon Ceramic brake system
• ZR1 chrome-aluminum wheels: 19-inch front and 20-inch rear
• Standard Performance Traction Management and Electronic Limited-Slip Differential
• Unique Indy 500 graphics package
• GM Design fully-integrated safety strobe system
• Performance Data and Video Recorder

The Corvette ZR1 Pace Car can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.85 seconds and reach a top track speed of 212 mph, the fastest Corvette in history.

Chevrolet has a storied history with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Chevrolet was founded in 1911, the year of the inaugural 500-Mile Race, and company co-founder Louis Chevrolet, along with brothers Arthur and Gaston, competed in early Indy 500 races. Arthur Chevrolet competed in the 1911 race, and Gaston Chevrolet won it in 1920.

"Chevrolet and IMS enjoy one of the longest-running and strongest bonds in motorsports," said Doug Boles, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president. "Seeing all of the incredible Corvettes that have paced the Indianapolis 500 on track today is an exciting reminder of the rich history of this great relationship. This year's Pace Car, the 2019 Corvette ZR1, is an incredible, fast machine that is a perfect fit to lead the '500' field to the green flag."

Newgarden to test windscreen at IMS
Monday, 23 April 2018
By Marshall Pruett (words and image)

windscreen1000_mp_joomla.jpg

Team Penske's Josef Newgarden will help the Verizon IndyCar Series conduct the second test of the cockpit windscreen it has developed to increase driver protection.

Following the windscreen's maiden outing in February on the ISM Raceway short oval in Phoenix with Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon, the device created by IndyCar's technical department will undergo its first laps at speeds well in excess of 200mph at the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

"We're planning to run it with Josef at the end of Monday's open test on April 30th," Frye told RACER. "And if, for any reason we can't, we'll run it with him and Team Penske the next morning on Tuesday."

The windscreen that will be affixed to Newgarden's No. 1 Chevy will be the same as what Dixon used on his No. 9 Honda.

"Nothing has changed since Phoenix," Frye continued. "We want to try the same piece with a different driver, different engine manufacturer, and at much higher speeds to get a read on it."

In-depth impact testing is also taking place behind the scenes with IndyCar's windscreen.

"Some of the crash and impact testing is taking place right now with identical versions of what's been on track and running again next week," Frye said. "After IMS, we want to get it on a car on a road course. And once we complete this IMS test and a run on a road course, we'll do a reverse timeline and have an update for getting it on more cars with the optimal shape of the windscreen completed. So far, so good."

Program Meseca Maja:

(11. / 12. maj, VN Indijanapolisa na granpri konfiguraciji staze)

13. maj, nedelja, Dan majki: Praznik, staza i padok su zatvoreni.

15. maj, utorak: Prvi dan treninga i ruki orjentacija.

28. maj, nedelja: Trka, 102. Indijanapolis 500.

O bolidu:

Part of design team behind new 2018 Indycar explains development
Published on Wednesday April 25th 2018

724cb5f843f0aebebc476347650a92b1.jpg

The striking looks and early success of IndyCar's new car has been a talking point of the 2018 season, and this week's Motorsport Show explores how the design was developed.

IndyCar abandoned expensive, downforce-laden manufacturer aerokits after three years of costly development when Honda attempted to catch up to the leading Chevrolet designs.

Not only did the costs rise out of control, but the racing on track was damaged by cars that proved difficult to follow.

Just one year into the life of the manufacturer designs, IndyCar was already planning its new car and it then worked with series partner Dallara.

Chris Beatty, a UK-based designer, saw the chance to approach IndyCar and influence the looks of the 2018 car and he tells host Peter Windsor how his role evolved.

"I managed to get involved with Stefan Wilson after his brother's accident at Pocono," he said.

"The next day he had a meeting with IndyCar's safety department and Jeff Horton, who is heading up IndyCar's windscreen programme.

"Jeff got in touch with me and said 'can we look at doing some concept work on the windscreen?' So I worked with him to produce concepts that went off to PPG [producer of the windscreen's materials] to really work out what could and could not be done.

"That project finished two years ago in terms of my involvement with it.

"I heard the 2018 project was coming up and asked Jeff if I could have the contact of the person heading it up and it was Tino Belli, the director of aerodynamics at IndyCar.

"I wrote to him 'I want to get on this project, it's perfect, and it's something I can help with'. The response was 'it's an aero and engineering project' and I thought 'OK, I've given it a fair crack'.

"About a month later I got an email back that had the concept as it was at that time with Tino and Jeff really asking what I thought of it as a casual observer."

Beatty continued to work with IndyCar on the new car's development and believes that it's change of direction has already proven successful on the track.

The designer points to statistics such as the following distance between cars halving this year due to the reduction in turbulence air.

He also added that the season-opening St Petersburg race had 110 passes between the top 10, with 11 of those becoming lead changes.

Testing this week kicks off true month of May at Indy
By Mark Robinson | Published: Apr 29, 2018

04-29-Hinch-On-Course-IMSTest2017.jpg

It’s almost like “Back to the Future” this week at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, as the roar of engines racing around the hallowed oval will usher in the month of May.

A Verizon IndyCar Series open test for all full-season veteran drivers – and a certain three-time Indianapolis 500 winner returning to the sport for May – is set for Monday. It will be followed on Tuesday by a day set aside for Indy 500 rookie orientation and refresher testing for veterans out of an Indy car for at least a year. Wednesday is reserved for manufacturers Chevrolet and Honda to test with a select number of drivers.

The April 30-May 2 testing dates rekindle memories of days gone by at IMS, to a time when the track opened for practice on May 1 and the race ran on May 30 for a true “Thirty Days in May.” As fond as those recollections may be for those with a historic perspective, the drivers participating in the testing this week are more concerned with the here and now.

For most of those testing, it will be the first opportunity to drive the 2018 Indy car with its universal aero kit at IMS in preparation for the 102nd Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil on Sunday, May 27 (11 a.m. ET, ABC and Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network).

Among the eager to turn a wheel is Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi, who won “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” as a rookie two years ago.

“It’s a whole new car, so there’s a massive test list that we’re going to try and get through,” Rossi said. “I think it’s just about finding the things that are good and the things that are bad, and the things that will carry over from years past.

“It’s no secret that we’ve had really good cars there, so I think everyone on the team is a little bit apprehensive about if it’s all going to translate.”

Andretti Autosport has fielded three of the last four Indy 500 winners in Ryan Hunter-Reay (2014), Rossi (2016) and Takuma Sato (2017). As Rossi admitted, though, that was with the previous generation car.

James Hinchcliffe sat on the Indy 500 pole in 2016 but, like Rossi, isn’t certain if past heroics guarantee future success. The Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver is glad he’ll have three teammates for the race, with full-season rookie Robert Wickens joined by one-off driver Jay Howard and part-time series driver Jack Harvey (in a collaboration with Meyer Shank Racing) in the SPM stable.

“It’s so new for everybody,” Hinchcliffe said of the new car. “We’re all starting from scratch, we’re all starting from ground zero.

“For us, (the testing) is just to log miles. We’ve got four cars in the race this year, which is a first for us. I think it’s a great year to have four cars because of all the extra data that we can gather with the new car. Ultimately just learn as much as we can. We’ve had a lot of really bad tests this year that we turned into really solid race weekends. We’re hoping to have a good test that we turn into an even better race weekend.”

Like SPM, Team Penske is upping its ante to four cars for the month. Helio Castroneves seeks to join one of the most elite groups in all of sports if he can win May 27 and join legends A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears as the only four-time winners of the event. Castroneves – who will also race in the INDYCAR Grand Prix on the IMS road course on Saturday, May 12 (3:30 p.m., ABC and Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network) – will test with the full-season veterans on Monday.

Tuesday’s rookie orientation and veteran refresher features the return to INDYCAR of Danica Patrick. The first woman to lead the Indianapolis 500 and the highest female finisher in race history is closing her groundbreaking career at this year’s race, driving the No. 13 GoDaddy Chevrolet for Ed Carpenter Racing. Patrick is also scheduled to see track time during Wednesday’s manufacturer test day.

Monday’s open test and Tuesday’s rookie/refresher day both run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and will stream live on RaceControl.IndyCar.com and the INDYCAR YouTube channel (youtube.com/indycar). Kevin Lee and Dave Furst will call the action from the broadcast booth, with Jake Query and Katie Hargitt reporting in pit lane.

There will be no stream of Wednesday’s manufacturer test (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) but all three days are open free to the public, with viewing locations at the IMS Museum parking lot, Turn 2 viewing mounds and South Terrace grandstands.

Tony Kanaan was fastest in both categories Monday afternoon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He went 226.181 mph with a tow and 223.240mph unassisted in the ABC Supply Chevrolet during the four-hour practice period.

On a gorgeous day, Honda led the morning session and Chevrolet took charge in the afternoon as 21 cars posted speeds in IndyCar’s open test. But Kanaan, who figures to be one of the contenders next month, was happy and surprised with his quick start for A.J. Foyt’s team.

“It was a good day and I didn’t expect to be on top; we were just trying to learn as much as possible about this new car,” sad the 2013 Indy 500 winner. “I tried to do a no-tow lap because that’s what counts, and you don’t have any tow when you’re qualifying. And I like that we were fast with a tow.”

Kanaan was the only driver over 226, but Simon Pagenaud was close behind at 225.90 mph in the Team Penske Chevy. “It was a good day, but we have so much to learn about this new aero kit,” he said.

Marco Andretti, quickest in the morning session, checked in as the fastest Honda again and third quick overall with a lap of 225.67mph. Gabby Chaves remained in the top five in both sessions and turned 225.63 mph in the Harding Chevy during the afternoon runs, while Scott Dixon ran 225.48mph in the Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

Sebastien Bourdais, returning to IMS after last year’s nasty accident in qualifying, got right back in the groove and was sixth best overall with a lap of 225.3mph.
