Max Verstappen was powered to victory in Mexico by anger.

That is the claim of his father Jos, who said the Red Bull driver was furious after missing out on pole despite otherwise dominating last weekend.

"I saw him on Sunday morning and he told me straight away that he had slept very badly," Jos, a former F1 driver, told the Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport.

"Max was annoyed about the car and missing the pole. But also by Ricciardo," he revealed.

"He (Daniel Ricciardo) celebrated his pole position with the exuberance of having become world champion. He (Max) was very angry and wanted only one thing: to win," Jos added.

Max Verstappen says he regrets nothing about shoving Esteban Ocon after Sunday's Brazilian grand prix.

The Dutchman will do two days of FIA community service as a punishment for the altercation, but insists he has no regrets.

"No. I'm just annoyed about not winning," the Red Bull driver said on the Peptalk programme on Ziggo Sport.

Verstappen says it was Frenchman Ocon's reaction to the incident that prompted his anger.

"I wanted to know what was happening with him and he just did a big grin and said 'I was faster than you'. He didn't say he apologised and in fact reacted the opposite way," said the 21-year-old.

"I wanted to be positive for my mechanics, but then you see someone like that who does not even say sorry for what happened.

"You do not expect to be hit by a laggard. I'm glad my dad wasn't there," said Verstappen, whose father Jos is famous for his short temper.

Some have said Verstappen's reaction was because of a long rivalry with Ocon in the junior categories.

When asked about that, Verstappen answered: "He is not a competitor of mine in formula one. I focus on myself and the people I have to beat."

Others think the Dutchman might benefit from the help of a psychologist, but Verstappen insisted: "If they come to me with a psychologist, I'll kick them out right away.

"You have to stand firmly in your own shoes. I don't need anyone. My father is a bit like a psychologist anyway," he smiled.

Dr Helmut Marko said the car rule changes for 2019 are "pointless".

For next year, car modifications including different front wings are designed to make overtaking easier.

But Marko, the top Red Bull official, is not impressed.

"It's a pointless regulation change that costs us around 15 million euros," he told Auto Motor und Sport.

"As far as the downforce is concerned, we are already more or less back at the current levels. And it will have no effect on the overtaking problem.

"I think when we're making decisions like that, we don't need to talk about the budget cap," Marko added.

Nonetheless, Marko is hopeful the switch to Honda will put Red Bull in a title-winning position next year, as the Japanese engine "already has more power than Renault".
