Zapocinjem novu temu sa rezimeom onoga sto se vec zna - kalendar, transferi i slicno. Ovde cemo ispratiti celu zimsku pauzu i predsezonska testiranja, a zatim naravno i kompletnu sezonu. Vec dve godine zaredom novi DW12 Indi bolid nam donosi izuzetno kvalitento i atraktivno trkanje tako da verovatno ni ova dolazeca sezona nece biti dosadna. No da krenemo redom.

 

Sa krajem ove godine se zavrsava stratesko partnerstvo Indikara i generalnog sponzora Ajzod - proizvodjaca sportske opreme. Jos uvek se pregovara sa potencijalnim kandidatima za generalnog sponzora u narednom periodu.

 

Potpisan je produzetak ugovora sa Fajerstonom za snabdevanje pneumatika, tako da ce ova severnoamericka podruznica Bridzstona biti ekskluzivni snabdevac Indikar serije do zakljucka sezone 2018.

 

Istekao je originalni najam motora koji su timovi imali sa proizvodjacima tako da sada mogu da se slobodno rade transferi i na tom polju. Za sada potvrdjene promene su transfer Ganasija sa Honde na Sevrolet i Andretija sa Sevroleta na Hondu.

 

I ove godine svi timovi ce voziti standardi Dalarin aeropaket da bi se od naredne sezone otvorila opcija za razvijanje sopstvenog.

 

Sto se tice promena na vozackom planu, potvrdjen je dolazak Huanpabla Montoje iz Ganasijeve Naskar ekipe u Penski gde ce voziti bolid #2 (treci Penskijev bolid, ove protekle sezone samo povremeno aktiviran za Almendingera), Toni Kanan ce iz KVRT preci u Ganasi (cetvrti Ganasijev bolid, neaktivan u sezoni 2013) dok ce Kananovo mesto u KVRT zauzeti Sebastijen Borde koji napusta ekipu Dragon Rejsing.

 

Zbog nerazumevanja novih gradskih vlasti u Sao Paolu i nemogucnosti dosadasnjeg sponzora da isfinansira novonametnute dadzbine, Indikar kalendar za 2014. nece imati nijednu trku van Severne Amerike. Ispala je jos i ulicna trka u Baltimoru (problemi sa stazom i organizacijom) a novitet je trka na Granpri konfiguraciji staze u Indijanapolisu kao uvertira za Mesec Maj.

 

Nakon uspesne uvertire ove sezone sa trkom na 400 milja, i trka u Pokonu ce se dogodine produziti na 'kraljevsku duzinu' od 500 milja (oko 800 km) kao i druge dve na repertoaru Triple Krune superovala (Indi i Fontana). Trka na TMS u Teksasu se produzava sa 550 na 600 km, a ona u Ajovi na 300 krugova.

 

Tri dabl-heder vikenda u Detroitu, Torontu i Hjustonu ostaju na kalendaru.

 

Kalendar je opet sastavljen od miksa ulicnih staza, ovala i autodroma. Imacemo 5 ulicnih staza (od cega su tri dabl-hedera, znaci ukupno 8 trka na ulici), 6 ovala (od cega 3 superovala za Triplu Krunu) i 4 autodroma u ukupno 18 trka. Prva trka je na probramu 30. marta a poslednja 30 avgusta - ovako rani kraj sezone je pomalo neuobicajen ali postoji mogucnost da ce naredne sezone ona poceti u zimu trkama na juznoj hemisferi pa je zato ostavljen prostor za "jesenju pauzu".

Sto se tice timova i vozaca, pretpostavlja se da ce se vecina ovogodisnjih timova vratiti i dogodine, za sada je Dragon neizvestan zbog finansijskih teskoca, a pojedini timovi rade na prosirivanju svog programa sa jos po jednim bolidom.

Wheldon Karting Challenge raises $100,000 for Alzheimer's Association

With two laps to go in the Dan Wheldon Pro Am Karting Challenge, five karts had a chance to come away with the win.

But shortly after the white flag, the lead three karts made contact, sending two into the grass and allowing Big Machine Records' Marino Franchitti and Machine of Awesome's Ed Carpenter to sneak by and take the checkered flag.

"I saw they had a bit of an issue in the front and it was able to get me back in the lead and that was enough to hold on," said Franchitti, who was filling in for his brother Dario. "It was just great racing all days and a great way to celebrate Dan and his life. I just wish he were here racing with us because he would have been kicking all of our arses."

Though Franchitti's kart -- which he shared with Big Machine CEO Scott Borchetta, Mark Borchetta and Clive Wheldon, father of Dan Wheldon -- was the first to take the checkered flag. Officials originally ruled it had short cut the course on the final lap. 

After determining that the Big Machine kart had not been the offending team, officials declared both Big Machine and Machine of Awesome co-winners of the 100-minute charity race, which saw each team compete in four segments driven by a different Pro or Amateur driver.

"We got second," said Carpenter, who teamed with Target Chip Ganassi Racing crew members Blair Julian and Adam Rovazzini and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports crew member Taylor Kiel. "There was a timing issue at the end. It was really good racing. It was a really good event and something we can continue for a long time.

"We raced against each other all year long, but this is a more relaxed setting and we were able to raise money for a charity that Dan loved -- The Alzheimer's Association. I feel like we did a lot of good today."

Teams were allowed to buy their way back on to the lead lap by donating to the Alzheimer's Association, which helped cause further confusion over the final segment.

 

Second-place was awarded to the American Honda team of Josef Newgarden, Dave Furst, Dan Layton and 16-year-old kart racer Chase Jones.

 

Third-place was the SG Football Helmets/AL Consulting team of Tristan Vautier, Anton Julian, P.J. Chesson and Mark Dismore Jr.

The biggest winner, of course, was the Alzheimer's Association, which was the beneficiary of the $100,000 raised by the event's sponsors and participants.

"Overall, I'm so happy and just feel blessed to be part of this and carry on Dan's legacy in so many ways, no only his passion for racing, but also to raise awareness for Alzheimer's," said Wheldon's widow, Susie, who organized the event.

The initial IndyCar Series offseason testing period is from Nov. 5-24, with several teams scheduling track time.

 

First up is Sebastien Bourdais in a KVSH Racing car Nov. 13-14 at Sebring International Raceway. Also, Firestone Indy Lights driver Mikael Grenier gets his initial opportunity behind the wheel of an IndyCar with KV Racing Technology.

 

Bourdais, who recently completed his second season with Dragon Racing, signed earlier this month to drive the KVSH Racing car for the 2014 season. Team principals are Kevin Kalkhoven, Jimmy Vasser and James Sullivan.

 

On the Indy Lights side, Team Moore Racing will test with Zack Meyer on Nov. 7 at MSR Houston.

- Robin Miler, doajen Indikar novinarstva kaze da je cuo da se razmatraju predlozi da se podigne bust na motorima tako da bi snaga sa sadasnjih nesto manje od 700 konja trebala da poraste na preko 800.

- Tim Drejer & Rejnbolt Rejsing koji je sezonu 2012 zbog nedostatka ugovora za motore pregurao u partnerstvu sa Panter Rejsingom a proslu sezonu je vozio samo do Indija, planira povratak za celu sezonu 2014. Ocekuje se da u DRR bolidu #22 ponovo bude Oriol Servija.

IRS says Montoya owes $2.7 million

 

The Internal Revenue Service is demanding $2.7 million in extra taxes and penalties from race car driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who, it asserts, had $9.5 million in taxable income in 2007 and 2008, nearly four times the $2.4 million he and his wife reported on their joint tax returns for the two years. In a previously unreported lawsuit filed in U.S. Tax Court, Montoya concedes that in those two years he had nearly $800,000 more in gross receipts, interest and partnership income than originally reported, but challenges the IRS other, even bigger dollar adjustments. Montoya, a 38-year-old Colombian citizen who now lives in state and local income tax free Miami with his wife, Connie Freydell, and three children, is hardly the first driver to run into trouble with the IRS. Coincidentally, he recently signed to drive in 2014 on the IndyCar team of Roger Penske, the billionaire CEO of Penske Automotive Group. That team already includes Brazilian Helio Castroneves, who placed second this year on the IndyCar circuit and is known beyond the track for winning Dancing With The Stars and for his 2009 jury acquittal on federal felony tax evasion charges.

Taking a look at drivers who advanced this season in Indy car record categories:

 

Scott Dixon won four of the final nine races of the 19-race season, which propelled the tenured Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver to his third IndyCar Series championship and into select company on the all-time Indy car win list.

 

Dixon, whose first victory came at Nazareth in 2001, broke a tie with Rick Mears and vaulted over Paul Tracy, Sebastien Bourdais and teammate Dario Franchitti to land seventh on the list with 33 victories. He’s the active leader, too. Next up is Al Unser Jr. with 34 wins.

 

Helio Castroneves won at Texas Motor Speedway to claim his 28th victory and break a tie with Johnny Rutherford for 13th. Team Penske teammate Will Power earned three victories and is 21st on the all-time list with 21.

 

There were 10 different winners during the season. Charlie Kimball, the last of the four first-time winners this season, was the 210th driver to record an Indy car win.

There were nine different pole winners during the season. Franchitti led the way with four earned poles to move from a tie for eighth with Power on the all-time list to sixth with 33. Castroneves claimed his 38th pole start to remain fifth on the list, while Power’s three poles put him in a tie with Michael Andretti for seventh.

 

Castroneves is the active leader, while Sebastien Bourdais is ninth (31) as he moves to KVSH Racing for the 18-race 2014 season and Dixon is tied with Gordon Johncock (20) at 14th.
