“We would definitely love to see more athletes come out of Africa,” Serena told the press. ”We were able to break the mold in a sport that was just really dominated by white people and to have a face of color than can come in and dominate (shows) it doesn’t matter what your background is and where you come from.”

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Serena Williams says it’s “a matter of time” until she’s No. 1 again.
Williams says her fifth Wimbledon title was the highlight of her year. She also won an Olympic gold, the U.S. Open and the season-ending WTA Championships.
The No. 3-ranked Williams says she’d “rather have Grand Slams and victories” than the top ranking.
“I’ve been No. 1 before and believe me, I’ll be No. 1 again. It’s just a matter of time.”
The winner of 15 Grand Slam titles finished the year No. 1 in 2002 and 2009.
Serena and sister Venus arrived in Johannesburg on Saturday on their two-nation tour of Africa. On Friday, Venus defeated Serena in an exhibition match in Lagos, Nigeria.
Serena promised she’d be going “all out” when they play in Johannesburg on Sunday.
