Investigation latest: Djindjic killed by DSS led “patriots” | 17:55 | B92

BELGRADE -- Friday – The ongoing investigation into the assassination of PM Djindjic has led to a “bloc of self-styled patriotic forces, with the Democratic Party of Serbia at its helm”, according to the Serbian Government’s press briefing today.

The Government explained that some 20 people closely associated with former Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica’s party have so far been detained, amongst them the former president’s security advisor Rade Bulatovic and former chief of military security General Aco Tomic.

In their statements to police, both Bulatovic and Tomic confirmed that they had held numerous meetings with Zemun Gang leaders Dusan Spasojevic and Milorad Lukovic, which was confirmed by the statements of several other detainees.

In his initial police statement, General Tomic claimed to have only met the gang leaders on one occasion, when Spasojevic gave him the latest model Nokia cell phone as a gift.

Police learned from the latest detainee statements that Lukovic, currently on the run, was attempting to secure the support of the Yugoslav Army for the now disbanded Special Operations Unit and their stance on those indicted by The Hague.

According to the police, Kostunica’s office has maintained a constant line of communication with the Special Operations Unit since October 2000, when the Milosevic regime fell.

BELGRADE -- Friday – The Serbian Government today insisted that Radical Party leader Vojislav Seselj was in cahoots with the Zemun Gang and helped plan the murder of Zoran Djnidjic.

At today’s press briefing, the Government officially claimed that the late Dusan “########” Spasojevic had been directly financed the Radical Party.

The Government also stated that the Zemun gangsters and Seselj, currently in The Hague after voluntarily surrendering, also planned the murders of Deputy PM Nebojsa Covic and Education Minister Gaso Knezevic.
