MOSKITOO - DRAPE(2007)

QUOTE
12k kicks off its 11th year with a new release that takes the label down new sonic pathways. Caught between the organic and electronic minimalism that 12k is known for and the unconventional Japanese pop musings and songwriting style of Happy, Moskitoo’s Drape is an infectously strange, bleepy, and dreamy debut release.

Sanae Yamasaki (Moskitoo) hails from Sappporo, Japan in the country’s northern-most prefecture of Hokkaido. Perhaps a reaction to the cool climate of her home, her multi-instrumental talents bring a wide range of warm tones and textures to Drape by means of guitar, metallophone, organ, drum machines, synthesizers and nostalgic toy instruments. Yamasaki’s gentle, airy vocals weave between broken beats and aqueous droplets of sound evoking half-awake memories lost and found.

Influenced by visual art (she painted the cover image), modern electronic music and abstract pop, such as Eno’s explorations in the 1970’s, Yamasaki does not set out to write a particular style of music, but rather, lets her creative process emerge naturally, following whims and experiments.

THE ROUTES - Left my mind (2007)

THE TREEBERRYS - Talkin About Treeberrys

THE TREEBERRYS - Treeberrys Treeberrys

Meni sveze i zabavno.

Evo ti jo[ par argumenata:
THE ROUTES - Left my mind (Motor Sounds; 2007)
Accused for being one of the highlights of Motor Sounds "Blood on the scratchplate '65 comp on these very pages, just as promised back then, The Routes are back with a full blown rave up, with their minds being left far behind, somewhere between January of 1964 and December of 1965, when the British r'n'b boom was shaking the grounds all over the world. Considering the sound of The Routes themselves, it seems that the "seizmic activity in Japan is still going pretty strong after all these years. My instant impression, after taking my first trip down the route, is that the description which takes us closest to the core would be "The Clapton/Beck era Yardbirds being produced, or should I say freaked-out, by Kim Fowley", with vocalis/guitarist Chris Jack, mostly hiding his non-Japanese origin behind the shades, sharing the same kind of an apropriate growl as the ex-Stroller and recent Maharaja, Mathias Lilja. Never really getting too far from it, an obvious exploitation of the above formula is being heard throughout the whole album, with the best examples being the opening pair of the title song and "Tell me it ain't so", while another one of the highlights might be "Slight delight", The Birds-like freakbeat "delight", taking a "slight detour towards an even hipper mod-ernistic r'n'b aproach. Now everyone, leave your mind and join the route to the motor sound!
