Sopranos creator defends finale

Sopranos creator David Chase went to France ahead of the finale
The writer of US drama series The Sopranos has said he did not intend to spark anger with its unorthodox finale.
David Chase said: "No-one was trying to be audacious. We did what we thought we had to do. No-one was trying to blow people's minds."
He also told New Jersey newspaper The Star-Ledger that a Sopranos film had not been ruled out after the television series' inconclusive swansong.
Sunday night's episode drew an audience of 11.9m to US cable channel HBO.

The Sopranos' fourth season opener in 2002 remains the highest-rating episode with an audience of 13.4m.
Chase, who travelled to France before the finale to "avoid all the Monday morning quarterbacking", gave only one interview to the newspaper, which is in the area where the mob drama is set.
"I have no interest in explaining, defending, reinterpreting, or adding to what is there," he said of the drama's end, which faded to black in the middle of a scene until the credits rolled.

"People get the impression that you're trying to mess with them, and it's not true. You're trying to entertain them. No-one was thinking, 'Wow, this'll tick them off," he added.
Chase refused to dismiss a big screen spin-off, saying: "If something appeared that really made a good Sopranos movie, and you could invest in it and everybody else wanted to do it, I would do it.
"But I think we've kind of said it and done it. An idea could pop into my head where I would go, 'Wow, that would make a great movie,' but I doubt it," added the writer.
The final episode's unexpected ending led some viewers to believe that HBO had gone off air.
The station was deluged with feedback, while the official chatroom of the series crashed as fans debated the conclusion.
Critics were split on the finale, with some calling it a "prank", while others saw it as a "revolution" and Chase remaining "defiant to the end".

E da je samo raspali Toni overio kvalitetnu veceru ispustanjem bioloskog otrova u Zemljinu atmosferu i u sledstvujuscem snu, mucen problemima digestivnog trakta, potrazio resenje medj sumama i gorama neznanih galaksija, Filipenkovoj sreci ne bi bilo kraja. Kako li se samo scenaristi nisu toga setili?!

Like millions of other viewers, Mr. Lindelof said he was initially taken aback by the quick cut to a blank screen and thought his cable had gone out at that crucial moment. He even checked his TiVo machine and saw that it was still running several minutes beyond the end. When he checked the scene again, he said, he noted “the scene cut off right as Meadow is coming through the door and right at the word ‘stop’ in the Journey song.”
He said: “My heart started beating. It had been racing throughout the last scene. Afterward I went to bed and lay next to my wife, awake, thinking about it for the next two hours. And I just thought it was great. It did everything well that ‘Godfather III’ did not do well.”

For the producers of “Lost,” who have declared an official finale in three more seasons, the conclusion of “The Sopranos” carried special weight. “There was immediate blowback for me,” said Carlton Cuse, Mr. Lindelof’s creative partner on the show. “A sense of fear ran through my veins, thinking that we are going to be in this position,” he said, adding, “we know the end is coming in 48 short episodes.”
He had admitted to some initial frustration with the ending of “The Sopranos.” “But it settled well with me,” Mr. Cuse said. “In that blank screen, there was a certain kind of purity in the choice Chase made to make it the fulcrum of the ending.”
Mr. Lindelof said that as daunting as it is to think of the expectations of ending a popular piece of entertainment, there was also a bit of benefit. “If you feel that everybody is going to hate it anyway, no matter what you do,” he said, “there’s a certain liberation in writing it.”

He, pa da. Fazon je u tome da je pojeo. Vito Korleone pazari narandze, Majklu Hajman Rot donosi narandzu iz Majamija, a Tonija oni likovi u 2. ili 3. sezoni napadaju razbijajuci mu flasu soka od narandze.
Ovde je oko pola ljudi koji su gledali Oscara prebacilo na Sopranose, pa su sponzori Oscara popizdeli te godine

Ne vidim nista cudno u toj reakciji.U prvom trenutku mi je zasmetao ovakav kraj, ili bolje receno-zbunio me je.Potom sam shvatio da bi sve ostalo bilo ocekivano, a pogotovo ako ih pobiju, tako da je ovako (bar sto se mene tice) savrseno...

Bilo je to sasvim prikladno upotrebljenih par sekundi - omaž, u tom trenutku gotovo trideset godina staroj, legendarnoj pesmi.
Što se mene tiče, samo još jedan primer koji pokazuje da je gotovo svaki sekund ove serije fenomenalan...

Odnos između prangijanja i dramatiziranja u posljednjih devet epizodnih crnjaka ipak je malo naheren u korist pucačine, ali ne smeta. Priželjkivao sam crno, crnje i crno da zaplačeš i uglavnom to i dobio.
U raspletu sam očekivao porodični kolaps na relaciji Toni - svi ostali, ali autori su se odlučili na malo širi zahvat, pa su porodicu prodrmali kroz AJ-evu krizu i usput provukli političke poruke o Bušu, terorizmu, novim američkim ratovima; mlada Amerika je depresivna, zbunjena, sluša Dilana i hoće u rat da bi ga zaustavila. Tu se vidi koliko je serijal za sve ove godine postao životan i koliko uspješno imitira stvarnost (na TV-u Little Miss Sunshine, u plejeru se sluša soundtrack iz The Departed). Na samoj je granici da u uobrazilji da je veći od života postane banalan, ali kobnu crtu ipak nikad ne prelazi.
Tonijev nezvanični dil sa agentom državnih službi i razmjena ključnih informacija (za odbranu države i odbranu porodice) jeste komentar o sprezi između vlasti i mafije kakva nije nepoznata u američkoj istoriji, jer je ozloglašeni Laki Lučijano svojevremeno sarađivao sa Vladom u borbi protiv komunizma i pri iskrcavanju američkih trupa na Siciliji, navodno, u zamjenu za dozvolu da nastavi biznis u SAD.
Što se tiče zanatskog privođenja serijala kraju, teško je ukazati na neku manjkavost; znali smo da će mnogi ugledni članovi Familije da životom plate rastanak sa TV gledalištem, ali momenti su ipak žestoki, naročito Krisovo stradanje. Taman kad sam pomislio da bi pogibija najsimpatičnijeg lošeg momka u bezveznoj automobilskoj nesreći bila sasvim u duhu nepredvidljivosti kakva krasi Sopranose, Toni kuca 91.., zastaje, sklapa telefon i brutalno završava posao sa onim demonskim izrazom na licu. Od jeze su mi izblijedile boje na TV-u.
O završetku nemam neko konkretno mišljenje. Prihvatio sam ga kao neminovnost svijeta Sopranosa, u kome računi nikad nisu svedeni, u kome je idila možda samo maska za oluju. A možda i nije.
Toliko je detalja, duhovitih momenata i trivija o kojima se može raspredati u nedogled. Na mnoge je već ukazano na ovom topiku, mnogi će se otkrivati tokom ponovnih gledanja. Hvala autorima na ovom remek-djelu.
Također hvala nesebičnom i požrtvovanom Maltezeu. Ironijom sudbine, diskovi koje dobih na poklon osveštani su na Ušću, živim muziciranjem, kako kažu, najvećeg od svih bendova, iako ih Toni, koliko se sjećam, nikada nije slušao (a jeste i Deep Purple, Metaliku, u posljednjoj sezoni pjevušio je na stepenicama bunovan i mamuran Comfortably Numb od Flojda - pravi roker)
Teško je biti sažet. Ako bi se probalo u jednoj rečenici objasniti kakva je posljednja sezona i šta se dešava sa omiljenim anti-herojima, samo bi jedan čovjek imao pravi odgovor:

Tony: "Everybody gets the blues."

Vredi videti jer govori mnogo o Sopranos fikciji (umisljenoj Mafijaskoj Porodici iz New Jarsej-a)
i DeCavalcante,pravoj mafijaskoj porodici iz New Jarsey-a.Karakteri,dogadjaji i sve ostalo vidjeno u
Sopranosima nije nista novo.David Chase je realnost New Jarsey-a odlicno preneo u svojoj drami.
Na TV-u su : Tony Soprano,"Jackie" Aprile,Bada Bing,Satriale's Pork Store,......
U zivotu su :Vincent "Vinny Ocean" Palermo,Jake Amari,''Wiggles''......
Sopranosi su parodija DeCavalcante Familije.....i ja ih obozavam.
Ko misli da su Sopranosi zavrseni,grdno se vara.....sve se nastavlja kao i pre,
upravo tamo odakle je i doslo,iz pravoga zivota na ulicama New Jarsey-a.....
Sopranose pratim od 2000-'te godine.Imam celu DVD Kolekciju i jos mnogo propratnih "S" zezalica.
....a da,....sada svi daju svoje misljenje o tome dali je Tony Dead or Live.
Moje misljenje je da je u "witness protection program".....ko zna shvatice.
