Sauber has announced the arrival of Jan Monchaux as its head of aerodynamics as part of its expansion following a new partnership with Alfa Romeo.
Monchaux joins Sauber after five years as Audi Sport's head of vehicle engineering and aerodynamics and stints at both Toyota and Ferrari. Monchaux will start work this month and heads up the aerodynamic team that reports to technical director Jorg Zander.
Monchaux's arrival sees a change of role for former head of aerodynamics Nicolas Hennel de Beaupreau, who had only been in the position for 18 months since joining from Lotus. Hennel de Beaupreau will take on another position within the aerodynamics department as Sauber looks to strengthen its technical team.
"I'm very much looking forward to the arrival of Jan Monchaux as the new head of aerodynamics," Zander said. "It marks an important step of a wider project that aims at strengthening and implementing the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team in line with the targets and the results we want to achieve on tracks."
Sauber announced a title partnership with Alfa Romeo last December, a deal that team principal Frederic Vasseur told RACER made his outfit "much more attractive for recruitment" after a number of years of struggle.
In finishing bottom of the constructors' championship in 2017, Sauber scored just five points all season and saw both cars drop out in Q1 at the opening race in Melbourne this year.

Sauber's technical director Jorg Zander has left the Formula 1 team with immediate effect.
It comes just weeks after the Swiss team hired a new head of aerodynamics and is in the process of an internal restructure as it bids to move up the F1 grid.
A Sauber statement confirmed Zander would stop working immediately.
Team principal Frederic Vasseur will supervise Sauber's work on 2018 upgrades and initial 2019 development "until a new organisation" is announced.

...a new holding company called Islero Investments AG, has been registered at the Sauber factory address. No doubt, in the fullness of time, they will explain what this is (an Islero, by the way, is a young Spanish bull, and the name was used back in the 1960s by Lamborghini for one of its cars). The directors of this company are team principal Fred Vasseur, Pascal Picci, who is the man behind Longbow Finance (the announced owner of the team) and a Swedish billionaire called Finn Rausing, who generally tries to keep his name out of things, but is listed clear as day in the company filings on this occasion. There are also a bunch of lawyers on the board and one presumes that they are acting as nominees for other investors. One is the Liechtenstein Foreign Minister Ernst Walch, another is a tax lawyer with the unlikely name of Maurus Winzap, which sounds like it should be the name of a motorcycle, while there is also a chap called Shelby du Pasquier, who seems to be close to a Mr Marchionne of Fiat, the two sitting together on the board of a Geneva-based verification and certification company called SGS SA for the last 10 years. This is interesting in that there are rumours that Suber will soon be purchased by Alfa Romeo, a brand belonging to Fiat...
