FORMULA 1 LAUNCHES FIRST ESPORTS COMPETITION
25 August 2017

esports-black-small.png

Formula 1 has made its first entry into the world of esports with the launch of the Formula 1® Esports Series. Starting in September 2017, the competition will allow fans and gamers from all over the world to battle it out to be crowned the Formula 1 Esports Series World Champion.

The Formula 1 Esports Series is a partnership between Formula 1, the world’s premier motor sport; Codemasters, the leading racing game developer and publisher; and Gfinity, the global leader in esports events and competitions.

The 2017 F1 Esport Series will be the first year of an annual competition, highlighting the sport’s long-term investment in esports and gaming as well as its continued ambition to build a greater connection with wider audiences, especially younger fans.

Competitors will race through three different stages. Qualification events will take place throughout September to determine the quickest 40 drivers: these will progress to the live Semi-Final events, to be hosted at the Gfinity Arena in London on October 10th and 11th. The top 20 will then progress to the Grand Final, which will take place at the Yas Marina as part of the 2017 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 24th and 25th. At the end of a three-race series, the first Formula 1 Esports World Champion will be crowned on the same weekend as the final 2017 Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The F1 2017 game is now available for Xbox, Playstation and PC/Mac via Steam, and players on all three platforms have an equal chance of racing their way into the live Semi-Final.

Sean Bratches, Managing Director, Commercial Operations at Formula 1 said:
“This launch presents an amazing opportunity for our business: strategically and in the way we engage fans. First, it’s a growing category with tremendous fan engagement that we’re entering in a big way; and we are proud to have Codemasters and Gfinity joining us on this ride. Of course as we do in Formula 1, we’ll continue to evolve and innovate in the way we run this virtual counterpart to the F1 Championship to ensure we provide the most exciting and enjoyable experience we can for our fans.”

Frank Sagnier, CEO at Codemasters said:
"Esports is one of the fastest growing sectors of gaming already attracting audiences in the tens of millions. We are delighted to be announcing this incredible racing series with Formula 1 for our upcoming F1 2017 game. The highly competitive nature and high-speed spectacle of the sport combined with the authenticity of our game will provide a thrilling experience for players and viewers across the world. We look forward to engaging more deeply with our loyal and passionate community, and to bring new fans to both our game and the sport itself."

Neville Upton, CEO, Gfinity said:
“Formula 1 entering esports is a ringing endorsement for what spectacular entertainment esports provides and how vital it is to cutting-edge organisations that want to push the boundaries of entertainment and fan experience. Like Formula 1, Gfinity has the experience, skill and infrastructure to put on world-class events and we look forward to delivering fans the Formula 1 esports Series with excellence.”

Formula E hits Las Vegas for biggest prize in eSports racing history

vegas_erace.png?width=324&height=112

Formula E is hitting Las Vegas this week – in more ways than one – for the inaugural Visa Vegas eRace.

Earlier this week, an all-electric convoy took to The Strip, with Sam Bird in a Formula E car, Antonio Felix da Costa in the BMW i8 Qualcomm Safety Car and Mitch Evans in the new Jaguar I-PACE concept to promote this weekend’s eRace.

The race, however, will not feature the cars in their physical form, but instead will pit the 20 Formula E racers up against 10 sim racers in a virtual world, with a $1 million pool making it the richest race in eSports racing history.

The battleground will be a 3.1-mile, 20-turn circuit designed around the streets of Sin City. A cool $200,000 will be awarded to the event winner.

MotoGP17_eSport_logo.png

We’re proud to announce the first official MotoGP# eSport Championship, exclusive for the Playstation 4 players.

Find below the official press release from Dorna:

Always at the forefront of digital trends, Dorna Sports kicks off the MotoGP# eSport Championship in 2017 to further engage its gaming fan base – as well as enticing fans to race in the comfort of their homes.

Dorna Sports approaches this project as a brand new Championship within its portfolio of racing series, managing all aspects of the competition. The official MotoGP# ’17 console video game – produced by long standing licensee Milestone – will provide the backbone of the MotoGP# eSport Championship, allowing gamers to take part in online challenges throughout the 2017 season with the aim of qualifying for the season finale, to be held in November at the circuit in Valencia – coinciding with the last round of the FIM MotoGP# World Championship. The eSport final event will be broadcast live by Dorna’s TV partners.

Exclusive to SONY PlayStation® 4, the MotoGP# eSport Championship will provide a direct link to real life racing with seven online events in a time trial format. The 16 fastest players will be invited to test their skills in a first live event in Valencia, just ahead of the MotoGP# season closer, with a BMW M240i up for grabs as the top prize.

This first foray into the eSports scene will lay the groundwork for a more extensive calendar for next year’s eSport Championship, which is backed by several founding members – most of whom are already involved in the MotoGP# World Championship as sponsors or partners.

Pau Serracanta, Dorna Sports’ Commercial Area Managing Director said: “Moving into the eSports scene is taking MotoGP into a new era. It’s a unique way to engage our established gaming audience and also a clear sign to the wider gaming community that MotoGP# is not only one of the top motorsports properties in real life, but also one of the most exciting digital experiences a console game can deliver. We will be putting together an exciting package mixing virtual and real life encounters blending the two worlds to deliver the utmost authenticity. From top tier partners to TV broadcasters and MotoGP# teams, the stakeholders will be working in unison to have a successful start in eSports, on a scale befitting MotoGP’s highest standards.”

SEMI-FINAL FORMAT FOR F1® ESPORTS SERIES10 October 2017

This evening, 40 of the world’s finest F1# 2017 players will race head-to-head for a place in the first-ever F1® Esports Grand Final.

Having proven their skills in the online qualifiers, the challenge now shifts to real-time competition and the Gfinity Arena in London.

Starting at 6pm (BST), the live Semi-Finals comprise a series of races around the epic Silverstone and Interlagos circuits.

Following a number of qualifying session, the drivers are split into four groups of 10, who then compete in two races (one at each track).

The seeding order determines the grid for the first race, while the results of race one define the starting line-up for race two.

Points are scored in the traditional 25-18-25-12-etc format used in Formula 1®.

The top five scorers in each group will then progress to the Grand Final, which takes place over two days in the run up to the 2017 Formula 1® Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
You can watch live coverage of the final four heat races on our live stream page or Twitch, with coverage starting at 6pm (BST).

Tournament Schedule

The 2017 F1® Esports Series starts with two online qualifying scenarios, where we’re not just looking for the perfect lap, but a demonstration of racing skill and overtaking prowess.

QUALIFICATION / online
4-26 September 2017
In the first scenario, which runs between September 4 and 12, you are challenged to take a Force India to the podium around the fastest of all the Formula 1 tracks – Monza.

In the second scenario, which runs between September 18 and 26, the ante is upped as only victory for Red Bull around the challenging Suzuka circuit will do.

In both cases, you are given five laps to complete the challenge and you’ll be racing against the computer-controlled AI cars. There’s no limit to the amount of times you can try nor the number of assists that you use to help you, but flashbacks are not allowed.

Finish highly enough in round 1 and you are straight through to the semi-final. But don't worry if you missed out (or missed round 1 entirely), you can still take part in round 2 and earn your place at London's semi-final.

Complete the challenge(s) in F1# 2017 and remember to visit this site regularly to check your progress in the tournament leaderboard.

If you’ve shown the skills necessary to make it to the next level, you’ll receive an invitation to the live semi-final.

SEMI-FINAL / London
10 October 2017
Taking place at the Gfinity Arena in London on October 10, the 40 qualifiers will now race head-to-head across four heats taking place at two more of F1’s most historic tracks – Silverstone and Interlagos.

As part of a live broadcast, there will be official practice and qualifying sessions ahead of each of the heats, but you’ll need to bring your A-game as only the top five drivers in each heat will make it to the final round.

GRAND FINAL / Abu Dhabi
24-25 November 2017
Taking place on November 24 and 25 in the run-up to the Abu Dhabi Etihad Airways Grand Prix, the Grand Final will determine who is the world’s best F1® gamer through a three-round championship.

Races in Montreal, Spa-Francorchamps and Abu Dhabi itself, form the basis for the final, with full practice and qualifying sessions preceding 25-minute races, which will be broadcast live.

The driver with the most points after three races will be crowned F1® Esports Champion and earn themselves of a place in Formula 1® history.

INDYCAR: Fans take on pros in official IndyCar iRacing league
Tuesday, 13 October 2015

IndyCar_Iowa_HiRes_1.png

Racers can never get enough racing. That's the impetus behind the new Verizon IndyCar Series simulated racing league, a collaborative effort among INDYCAR, iRacing and RACER magazine to establish a top-notch online racing game with professionals from the Verizon IndyCar Series and Mazda Road to Indy competing alongside invited standout amateur virtual racers.

The weekly league - aptly named the "16th Street Racing League" in honor of where Indianapolis Motor Speedway is located - debuts Oct. 13. All races will be telecast live on IndyCar.com, complete with commentators and race stewards. Professionals expected to compete include Verizon IndyCar Series drivers Will Power, Simon Pagenaud, Sage Karam and Sebastian Saavedra - each looking at the opportunity to keep their driving skills honed until the 2016 "real" season arrives.

"INDYCAR has quite a long offseason and you have to find ways to stay sharp," said Pagenaud, who just completed his sixth Indy car season and first with Team Penske. "iRacing is a great way to do that. It's amazing how detailed the cars and tracks are on the sim. I'm looking forward to running some races in the 16th Street Racing League during the winter months. I'm sure there will be a lot of healthy competition amongst the drivers."

The 11-event schedule features an array of current and historic Indy car tracks, with a mix of ovals and permanent road circuits. Each race begins at 8 p.m. ET, with the first stop on the schedule the 1-mile oval at Phoenix International Raceway. Other tracks on the virtual calendar are: Barber Motorsports Park (Oct. 20), Iowa Speedway (Oct. 27), Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (Nov. 3), The Milwaukee Mile (Nov. 10), Road America (Nov. 17), Pocono Raceway (Nov. 24), Sonoma Raceway (Dec. 1), Texas Motor Speedway (Dec. 8), Watkins Glen International (Dec. 15) and Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Dec. 21-22 oval qualifications and Dec. 29 race).

Karam, the 2013 Indy Lights champion who has competed in 13 Verizon IndyCar Series races over the past two seasons, is a long-time iRacing participant and proponent.

"iRacing isn't just for entertainment, I consider it a serious training tool," said Karam, 20. "I found iRacing at a trade show when I was 13 years old and they were just launching the company. They made me a beta tester and I used it to train for the Skip Barber Shootout at Sebring.

"I trained 100 laps a night on iRacing for two weeks straight. I showed up at Sebring and never physically drove the track before (arriving). I went on to win the shootout over the largest class ever (52 competitors).

"I still go on iRacing with many other INDYCAR drivers on a regular basis," Karam added. "My sim setup has come a long way from a lawn chair and a steering setup clamped to the kitchen table, though!"

Supercars launches Bathurst eSports competition

OauWkKa.jpg

Supercars has officially confirmed its move into the eSports market, with the Harvey Norman Supercars Forza Challenge to be held for the first time at Mount Panorama this year.

Having previously expressed interest in a move into the rapidly growing eSports segment, the Aussie Touring Car series has now confirmed details of its first digital competition.

Backed by electronics retailing giant Harvey Norman – also the primary sponsor of Simona de Silvestro’s Nissan – the competition will be based around the Forza franchise and Xbox platform.

Throughout September and October sim racers will log their best laps around the Mount Panorama circuit on Forza Motorsport 6, the eight best qualifiers winning a trip to this year’s Bathurst 1000 for a live finals event.

There the finalists will be paired up with some of the sport’s biggest names like Shane van Gisbergen, Scott McLaughlin, Chaz Mostert, David Reynolds, Lee Holdsworth, de Silvestro, and Alex Rullo for an All-Stars Challenge.

After that the sim racers will do battle in a series of live final races using Forza Motorsport 7, which is set to be released the week of the Bathurst 1000.

The Grand Final will be streamed live by the official Supercars website, as well as Fox Sports in Australia and on the relevant broadcast partners in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

“This eSports initiative is an exciting opportunity to showcase Supercars and further our fan engagement, representing a significant growth market for our teams and partners,” Warburton said.

“The synergy and popularity of racing games and the sport of Supercars means that a eSports Championship in 2018 will become a natural extension of our product offering.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Harvey Norman and Microsoft as well as the stars of our show, the Supercars drivers and their teams.”

The move follows a similar announcement from Formula 1, which has set up an eSports competition based around its new F1 2017 console game.

McLAREN AND LOGITECH G TEAM UP FOR THE WORLD'S FASTEST GAMER COMPETITION
Your chance to win the greatest job in esports

WFG_LongFormLogo_TEAMStreamArticleHero_a

McLaren has become the first Formula 1 team to enter the esports arena, announcing World’s Fastest Gamer – the world’s most intense and demanding competition for virtual racers. It’s a contest that will see the winner offered the best job in esports – a role with the Formula 1 team as one of its official simulator drivers.

World’s Fastest Gamer is a collaboration between global sports and technology brand McLaren, founding partner Logitech G, a global leader in gaming gear and the founder of virtual motorsport’s famous GT Academy, Darren Cox. McLaren welcomes two further partners for launch, sports media platform GIVEMESPORT and esport racing innovator Sparco.

The format pits the best gamers in the world across multiple racing platforms as they battle each other to discover the ultimate ‘champion of champions’.

The winner will be offered a one-year contract with McLaren to work in an official capacity as a simulator driver. They will work with engineers at the McLaren Technology Centre and at grand prix circuits across the world to develop and improve the machinery driven in the real world by the team’s drivers, Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne.

Billed as ‘the best job in esports’, the battle to find McLaren’s newest recruit will be viewable at every stage via a dedicated YouTube channel and McLaren’s social media channels. Six international finalists will be hand-picked by experts in both gaming and Formula 1 to join this year’s competition. A further four finalists will be selected from qualifying events online during summer 2017.

The grand finale, held at the McLaren Technology Centre in the autumn, will put all 10 hopefuls through one of the most rigorous job interviews in the world. Not only will they race against each other across a variety of different gaming titles on different platforms, they will also need to demonstrate their engineering know-how, ability to work as part of a team, and display the mental and physical strengths required for such a unique position.

McLaren Technology Group Executive Director Zak Brown said:

“This is a hugely exciting opportunity – not only within the gaming industry, but for everyone at McLaren and motorsport in general. We’ve long witnessed the growth of online sports gaming, and, right now, the parallels between the real and the virtual worlds have never been closer.

“This is absolutely the right time to be creating such a unique and exciting proposition; one that connects the worlds of racing and gaming in a way that’s never been explored before.

“I’m particularly proud that McLaren, alongside our partners Logitech, Sparco and GIVEMESPORT, have staked a claim as the very first sports and technology brand to venture into the diverse and fast-growing world of esports.

“World’s Fastest Gamer really aims to democratise the process of finding the best virtual racer out there. The contest isn’t limited to one platform or one game; we’re very keen not to restrict access or entry for people, but rather welcome the worldwide gaming community, whether that’s on mobile or on high-end simulator platforms.

“And the winner will genuinely be a key part of our team at McLaren. This is for real: we absolutely require additional support across our two simulator platforms, so the competition and the selection process will be rigorous, ruthless and compelling to watch.”

Ujesh Desai, Vice President and General Manager, Logitech G commented:

"Logitech G has been in the esports world since the early days, and we’re happy to now work with McLaren to lead the next mainstream esport obsession! Joining McLaren as a founding partner of the World’s Fastest Gamer brings together our combined expertise on one virtual platform.

“Logitech G Driving Force racing wheels are engineered for extreme performance and are designed to win; we’re proud to be able to provide them for these exciting events.

“Logitech G and McLaren share an obsession for speed, cutting-edge technology and the passion of millions of fans. We can't wait to see what the future will bring."

Darren Cox, IDEAS+CARS Chief Maverick Officer, added:

“Gaming and esports are growing at an astonishing rate. The football industry has recognised this, with the result that activity has exploded between the real world and the virtual world in the last 18 months. Now, World’s Fastest Gamer will provide the focus for motorsport to talk directly to the huge numbers of passionate and dedicated gamers racing online – engaging and immersing them in the real world of racing.

“In McLaren and Logitech G, we have the perfect partner with whom to deliver this project: their constant focus on technical innovation and their authoritative position within motorsport’s digital communication sphere are the obvious major benefits. However, to align with a global sports and technology brand that is renowned for producing some of the world’s greatest Formula 1 cars, road cars, and that now applies insights from both to improve lives through its technology arm, gives us the opportunity to involve and integrate gamers from across a whole range of gaming platforms and racing interests.

“Motorsport will invest heavily in esports in the coming months and years, and World’s Fastest Gamer is at the very forefront of that movement.”

Where the real world meets the virtual world…

With teams, leagues and players from the world of sport investing heavily in esports – from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, to West Ham United and the Philadelphia 76ers – virtual/reality collaborations are a fast-growing trend.

In the US, esports are already catching up with baseball and ice hockey. A recent US report found that 76% of esports enthusiasts now prefer the gaming equivalent to watching their favourite sports on TV.

esport is now one of the biggest sports in the world, with revenues now overtaking those of Hollywood. Global gaming is worth $100 billion, with year-on-year growth of almost 10%, and the esports global audience has already reached 300 million.

As viewership of motorsport is adjusting to new digital trends, and leading brands start to invest heavily in gaming instead of traditional sports sponsorship, the message for the sports industry is apparent: virtual sport offers a compelling way forward.

Ovaj video je ludnica! Nisam imao pojma da tako nesto postoji.

Alene, sudelujes li i ti necemu takvom?

No biće bolje kasnije..

McLaren Formula 1 - Rudy van Buren wins World’s Fastest Gamer to become official McLaren simulator driver

38487980556_96fdb07e7d_k.jpg

Rudy van Buren, a 25-year-old sales manager from Lelystad in the Netherlands, has beaten more than 30,000 contestants to be crowned the World’s Fastest Gamer – the McLaren Formula 1 team’s ground-breaking esports competition that aims to find the best virtual racing driver on the planet.

In the final round of the contest, an exacting four-hour assessment using McLaren’s state-of-the-art Formula 1 simulator, van Buren beat countryman Freek Schothorst, a 20-year-old science, business and innovation student from Amsterdam.

Van Buren now claims the greatest job in esports – becoming one of the F1 team’s official simulator drivers for the 2018 season.

Van Buren began racing karts aged eight, ultimately winning the Dutch Karting Championship in 2003. However, like many budding talents, he was forced to quit at the age of 16 due to lacking the financial backing needed to progress further.

However, World’s Fastest Gamer, which identifies racing talent through esports, has given van Buren a second chance at his motorsports career.
On quitting racing, van Buren said:

“You search for a replacement because you’ve still got that racing feeling inside you. You want to go on but there’s no option or route available. That burn inside to win, doing a lap quicker and quicker, lap after lap, it’s a feeling that you can’t express.

"Every boy that starts karting dreams about F1, and at a certain point that dream just vanishes. Now by winning World’s Fastest Gamer, I can relive that dream.”
On winning World’s Fastest Gamer, van Buren said:

“This has been the most incredible experience and words can’t describe how I feel right now. To think that I came to the McLaren Technology Centre for the very first time last week but am leaving here today as McLaren’s newest employee is mind blowing.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for giving me this amazing opportunity; just being here, meeting the team and competing with some amazing people has been an unforgettable experience. It really has been the toughest job interview I’ve ever faced, but with such an incredible reward at the end of it. Now I can’t wait to get started!”
Zak Brown, Executive Director, McLaren Technology Group:

“First, my congratulations to Rudy – he really showed the mettle, determination and ability to succeed.

"This was an outstandingly tough contest, one where we went to great lengths to stretch our contestants beyond their limits, and he’ll be a real asset to the organisation as we develop and refine our 2018 car throughout the next season.”

The World's Fastest Gamer competition, which began in May 2017, saw gamers from around the world compete for a coveted position in this month’s gruelling finals. After numerous heats across a variety of different games and platforms, 12 grand finalists were invited to McLaren’s Woking headquarters to go head-to-head in one last week of testing.

Finals Week included rigorous tests around some of the racetracks where McLaren has enjoyed its most legendary days of competition, including the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500; Japan’s Suzuka Circuit; Brazilian Grand Prix venue, Interlagos; and the world’s most famous 24-hour race, Le Mans, where finalists were tested over a full day-long race distance.

After the 12 contestants were whittled down from six to three, and then finally two, van Buren went up against Schothorst in the ultimate test – an extensive evaluation behind the wheel of McLaren’s hyper-accurate racing simulator, the exact same kit that’s used by the actual F1 drivers to develop their cars ahead of each grand prix.

To triumph, van Buren not only needed to demonstrate the speed and agility required by all top racing drivers, but also the engineering know-how and mental and physical ability required to develop, refine and engineer an F1 car for the team’s two race drivers, double world champion Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne.

World’s Fastest Gamer is a partnership between global sports and technology brand McLaren and the founder of virtual motorsport’s GT Academy, Darren Cox, in collaboration with founding partner Logitech G, a global leader in gaming gear, and two further partners – sports media platform GiveMeSport and esport racing innovator Sparco.

For more information follow the World's Fastest Gamer TEAMStream, or via social media at WFG Twitter, McLaren Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or search using #WFGFinals.

Today, F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso, Logitech G, a global leader in gaming gear and simulation wheels, and G2 Esports, the leading esports team worldwide, announced a new, elite racing team - FA Racing G2 Logitech G. The team will participate across a variety of games, console and PC platforms, as well as all current competitions.

Professional teams are critical to sustaining the phenomenal growth of esports and to simulation racing in particular. Through this collaboration FA Racing, G2 Esports and Logitech G become the first racing team to partner with an F1 champion, and aim to create a team that all sim racing enthusiasts will aspire to. The team are pleased to confirm that Cem Bolukbasi, a finalist in this year’s F1 esports championship taking place in Abu Dhabi this week, has already signed up.

“Every Formula 1 driver is a gamer at heart," said Fernando Alonso. "Competing on the virtual stage opens a vast amount of possibilities for young drivers that wouldn’t otherwise have a chance to get into racing. For the first time ever, fans are no longer just spectators but can take part in the game and maybe become real e-drivers on my team. I cannot think of better partners than G2 Esports and Logitech G to start this up with and I am raring to get going!”

“Logitech G has played an important role in supporting the development of esports since 1997,” said Kristian Tear, head of EMEA at Logitech. “We are excited about this partnership with G2 Esports and Fernando Alonso and look forward to working together on building new driving programs and the best gear for professional racing."

G2 Esports CEO Carlos 'ocelote' Rodriguez said: “Combining my two early passions for esports and motorsport to create an elite team headed by a two-time Formula One World Champion and living legend is a childhood dream for me. This partnership brings the competitive part of racing to a new level and I am proud to lead the efforts in such good company.”

I was shocked - in a good way - when I found out the participation numbers and the online viewership of esports competitions. It’s massive, so me and my crew have to be there, doing our best to be a lighthouse to connect our two fantastic worlds… traditional motorsport fans and the new generations that develop their skills every day in sim racing.”

About Fernando Alonso

Pushing boundaries and reaching the incredible is something one could say about Fernando Alonso. After establishing the passion for karting at young age, in 1996 he proved his ambition and skill becoming world karting champion. His talent was soon noticed and he started his long lasting Formula One relationship. In September of 2005, 24-year-old Fernando won the Formula One World Drivers' Championship title becoming the youngest holder of the title at the time and defending it in a consecutive year. Currently Fernando is racing for McLaren-Honda. He is the only Spanish driver to have won a Formula One Grand Prix and is the driver with the sixth highest number of Grand Prix wins, 32.

This year seems to be the year of new beginnings for Fernando Alonso. In May he tried himself as a racer outside Formula One and made his debut in Indianapolis 500 earning the Rookie of the Year award. Shortly after the famous racer introduced his new fashion brand KIMOA, which will also be represented in the FA Racing G2 Logitech G apparel.
