Formula E set for Santiago's streets

track-map-santiago.jpg?anchor=center&mod

For commuters traveling through Santiago's O'Higgins Park this morning, it was far from the usual trip to work. Sharing the streets with conventional cars and public transport was the all-electric SPARK SRT_01E, with Santiago born former racing driver Eliseo Salazar behind the wheel, to welcome the FIA Formula E Championship to the city's streets.

After touring the city, Salazar joined Alberto Longo, Co-founder & Deputy CEO of Formula E and the Chilean President Michelle Bachelet in front of La Moneda Palace before reviewing the track layout ahead of the race on February 3 2018. “It’s an honour to join President Bachelet for the first appearance of Formula E on the streets of Santiago," said Longo. "South America is steeped in motorsport history and tradition - and Formula E will make its own history in Chile for many years to come, starting this coming season,” he added.

santiago.jpg?width=500&height=333.333333

Stretching 1.53miles (subject to FIA Homologation) through the city centre, drivers will line up on the grid along Avenue Santa Maria before crossing the river Mapocho. Once across, they'll navigate their way around Plazza Baquedano before cutting through Forestal Park to return to the start/finish line. Having hosted the Grand Prix in 1950 - when racing legend Juan Manuel Fangio took the chequered flag - Round Four of the Formula E Championship will be the first time Santiago has seen all-electric single-seaters take to the city's streets.

"This race will allow the benefits of electric vehicles to be known by the Chilean people," said Andres Rebolledo, Minister of Energy. "Our projection says that if we generate the necessary regulatory, logistics and market conditions, in the year 2050, 40 per cent of the vehicles in Chile will be electric,” he added.

Non-state mining company Antofagasta Minerals will be the title partner for the race. "We believe that Formula E contributes to promoting the use of electric vehicles, which not only improves the outlook for the copper market, but contributes to a cleaner world," said company CEO Ivan Arriagada.

Konačno sam završio s snimanjem i testiranjem.

November 5th is the date of municipal elections all across the Province of Québec, and a new mayor in Montréal would probably mean a desire to relocate the Formula E track.

Current mayor Denis Coderre and challengers Valérie Plante (Projet Montréal) and Jean Fortier (Coalition Montréal) are the three main rivals in the battle for becoming mayor of Montréal for the next few years.

Mr. Coderre masterminded the project of a Formula E race on the streets of downtown Montréal, and the city has signed a three-year deal to stage the electric car series on the streets around the Jacques-Cartier bridge.

The maiden Hydro-Québec ePrix of Montréal was held last July and it generated massive protest from the local residents. They complained for months about the reconfiguration and paving of the streets, the installation of the concrete walls, catch fences grandstands, and all the activities surrounding the event itself.

For those reasons, La Presse reports that Valérie Plante said in a recent press conference that if she becomes the mayor of Montréal, the race would be relocated on the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit, home of the Canadian F1 Grand Prix.

“Relocating the race on the F1 track would save more than $10 million to the city of Montréal every year,” she claimed. “The grandstands and the safety equipment would not have to be built as they are already sited on the Ile Notre-Dame.”

Valérie Plante and her party promise to save massive amounts of money to the tax payers if she’s elected, and the relocation of the Formula E race is just one point in their project.

However, the FIA and the organizer of the Formula E Championship may not accept that the race is moved to another location, as the objective of the series is to showcase electric powered vehicles in a typical urban environment.

We wait to hear the position of the third major candidate concerning the future of the Montréal Formula E race.

Porsche is considering the premature entry into the Formula E through Teampartnerschaft

Since the end of July, we know that Porsche will enter the Formula E as the company's sixth season, that is, at the end of 2019. Although more than two years have elapsed, the sports car has already begun preparing for the new electric project.

At the Valencia test, leading engineers from the current LMP1 team were already on the ground to learn about the conditions on the track as well as the Dragon Racing team. As it became known, Porsche could possibly enter the electric series via the US racing team earlier than planned, namely the fifth season of 2018.

"I would definitely not deny the possibility," says Andreas Seidl, current LMP1-Teamchef and presumably future Formula E Teamchef of the Porsche-Rennstalls (see picture), opposite 'e-racing365'. "We have a team of six, and we've been in Valencia to get a picture of ourselves, and now we need to think about how we are tackling the Formula E project us."

It would be conceivable to have a technology partnership that BMW has been using for a long time with Andretti. The Bavarian coach is in constant communication with the US, places more and more own factory drivers in the team and will be the fifth season finally the manufacturer license of Andretti. Whether Porsche Dragon would be able to take the license for the sixth season or buy a whole new additional team, is not yet foreseen.

In the coming fourth season already two current Porsche WEC drivers are starting in Formula E. While Andre Lotterer hired at Techeetah, Neel Jani has come to Dragon. Both will gain valuable experience for Porsche and are currently regarded as favorites for the two Porsche factory drivers' cockpits in season six.

However, this is certainly not the case: "Of course, our goal is to continue our story with the guys in the next program, but there is no guarantee," Seidl says. "That's why we're not going to get the drivers anywhere, we've got all the time in the world, but we'll always first look internally at drivers."

Through Jani, Porsche will always be in contact with Dragon Racing next season. Whether and in what form the Zuffenhauseners share with the US-Americans, however, is not finally decided: "We are looking at what is most useful for us at the moment, but it is still too early to know that get a clear picture of Formula E and then decide when we want to start testing and which drivers we want to use, but we do not hurry, "says Seidl.

Šuška će da bi Mercedes debitovao u FE kupovinom Venturija. Dakle kako stoje stvari novi konstruktori će ući kupovinom postojećih timova, evo kako stoje stvari do sada:

* Andreti postaje BMV

* Audi

* Dregon postaje Porše

* DS Virdžin

* Mahindra

* NIO

* Jaguar

* Reno postaje Nisan

* Tačita (jedini privatnik, moguće da bi pristali na kupovinu ako bi im prišao neki veliki autogigant, možda Maserati ili Mercedes na primer)

* Venturi postaje Mercedes

HWA Considering Season Five Campaign Ahead of Mercedes Entry
Mercedes-affiliated HWA operation could race from Season Five onwards with a new team, ahead of full factory entry in 2019/20…

The Mercedes-affiliated HWA operation could race from Season Five in the FIA Formula E Championship ahead of the manufacturer’s previously announced full works effort for the following year.

Secret plans for HWA to enter an 11th team have been uncovered by e-racing365, which may effectively act as a planned precursor to Mercedes’ full entry into the series in 2019/20.

The team, which is likely to be known initially as just HWA Formula E Team, could use an existing powertrain from the ZF or Mahindra operations as a customer operation before Mercedes’ own technology comes on stream for Season Six.

It’s believed the plan has gathered momentum in recent months after HWA directors visited the New York E-Prix in July.

Both HWA founder Hans-Werner Aufrecht and team director and company CEO Ulrich Fritz held several meetings at the event and are known to have been orchestrating a plan to establish what could be viewed as a “sleeper team” for Mercedes-Benz.

It was originally thought that HWA would partner with the Venturi team after Aufrecht and Fritz spent the time with the Monegasque team in New York.

Even though Mercedes and Venturi share a common technology partner in the ZF Group, an official collaboration is now thought not to be as likely as first thought.

Mahindra is known to have entered the frame as a potential partner for HWA for Season Five and in-depth talks are believed to be lined up for the coming weeks.

Discussions about the Season Five plans have taken place recently and are believed to have continued at the DTM finale at Hockenheim last weekend, although without a 100 percent confirmation that they will reach fruition.

It’s understood the plans are not viewed as an official acceleration of Mercedes entry plans for 2019, with the manufacturer downplaying the proposal at least from a factory perspective.

However, a HWA-activated entry for the 11th slot on the Formula E grid would publicly be viewed as an enhanced learning process for Mercedes future efforts in the category. This is likely to be considered by many in the Formula E paddock as a more overtly structured process than Porsche’s current plans with the Dragon racing team.

At the time of its announcement in July, Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Executive Director Toto Wolff explained the decision to wait until Season Six was to “give us time to properly understand [Formula E]” and “prepare for our entry in the right way.”

There now appears to be a shift in Mercedes’ strategic thinking as the complexities of the new Season Five battery and race car start to emerge.

E-racing365 has discovered that some initial grey areas in the regulations were explored by new or future manufacturers, including the possibility of acquiring Season Five manufacturer licenses from already registered entrants.

A key Formula E organization figure told e-racing365 last week that this is not possible and that the only solution would be “for new manufacturers to work with existing powertrain providers” until the new registration process for Season Six opens next year.

The registration process itself is believed to be delayed until the middle of 2018 at the earliest.

HWA would have to get a deal in place as a customer for a powertrain by the end of January. Season Five teams will then be proposed by Formula E Holdings Ltd to the FIA in June before the entry list is formulated and made public shortly after.

Queue of Drivers for HWA and Mercedes

Several Mercedes-affiliated drivers have recently come in to Formula E, including Maro Engel and recent testers Edoardo Mortara and Daniel Juncadella.

Other Mercedes drivers, such as Pascal Wehrlein, Maximilian Gunther and Lucas Auer are also under consideration for future Formula E seats.

Venturi will announce their drivers for Season Four this Friday, with either Mortara or James Rossiter tipped to join Engel at the Monegasque team.

HWA engineers and directors are expected to be seen at one of, if not both, of the first two E-Prixs of the season at Hong Kong and Marrakesh.

It’s believed that an official announcement on plans to have a HWA-fronted team could be made shortly.

Formula E ready for Rome

From the familiar cobbled streets and piazzas to Rome's ancient landmarks and world-famous monuments, the Italian capital awoke to the sound of four all-electric single-seater racers touring the streets to welcome the FIA Formula E Championship ahead of the inaugural Rome E-Prix on April 14 2018. Click HERE to register for tickets.

Leading the pack was reigning champion and Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler driver Lucas di Grassi as he toured the city alongside former champions Sebastien Buemi (Renault e.dams) and Nelson Piquet Jn. (Panasonic Jaguar Racing), followed by newly-signed Italian NIO Formula E driver Luca Filippi.

Making their way in formation through the heart of the Eternal City, the drivers stopped off in front of city hall, pulling onto the Michaelangelo-designed Piazza del Campidoglio. “I’m excited to be here today to present the first-ever E-Prix in Rome," said Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag. "Meeting, seeing and hearing the Formula E cars on the streets of a place like Rome, for me, will be a truly unforgettable experience," he added.

Greeting the drivers in the square, Rome's Mayor Virginia Raggi said the E-Prix will have a "positive economic impact," bringing "investments and benefits to the city with its legacy programme, such as new streets and electric charging stations," she added before the drivers continued their tour of the city.

Piloting the cars past Rome's most notorious battleground - the Colleseum - all four drivers arrived at the Roma Conference Centre, in the contemporary district of EUR where the race will be held. “Today we’ve finally managed to determine the right conditions that will bring the great show of electric cars on the city's EUR circuit...It’s a personal satisfaction and a team result," said EUR SpA Chairman Roberto Diacetti.

With the course being announced ahead of the race, the Circuto Cittadino dell’EUR will be the second longest track in the calendar at 1.77miles in length. With a total of 21 turns, the circuit will be "challenging for the drivers," said Agag. With the start/finish line on Via Cristoforo Colombo, the cars will race around the Obelisco di Marconi, against the backdrop of the iconic Colosseo Quadrato.
