edit: Vicente Martinez-Ybor built the biggest cigar factory in the world in 1886. He believed that in order for the cigar industry to be successful that he needed to encourage others to get involved in manufacturing cigars. The industry grew quickly to 200 cigar factories in Ybor City which accounted for the production of 600 million cigars manufactured per year. This was truly the golden era for this industry. The depression of 1929 and the cigarette industry began the decline of the cigar industry. In 1962 the Cuban trade embargo had the largest and most significant impact on the cigar industry in Ybor City which caused nearly 200 of the original manufactures to close their doors.

Tatuaje premium handmade cigars are one of the most sought after brands due to their epic flavor profiles that are steeped in classic Cuban tradition. The Tattoo is yet another boutique line produced by cigarmaker extraordinaire Pete Johnson. Each Tattoo cigar is tailor-made with an elegant Ecuadorian Habano wrapper filled to the brim with the finest hand-selected fillers from the most fertile growing regions in Nicaragua. This is a solid medium-bodied smoke suited for just about every smoker's taste preferences. After cut and torch, you are immediately greeted with a blast of spice and pepper that quickly allow the more subtle notes of cocoa, sweet cream, and cedar to break through and join the symphony of well-balanced luxurious flavors. With its more affordable price, the Tattoo is a wonderful opportunity to try one of Tatuaje’s finest offerings.TT

What Is A Cold Taste?

Basically, it's smoking a cigar before lighting it. If you clip a cigar and put it in your mouth, then suck air through it before you light up, you can taste the tobacco inside. The flavor won't be the same as a burning cigar, but it will hint at the taste to come.

Who in the world would puff an unlit cigar? It's a common practice among those in the cigar industry. A cold taste, as it's known, can reveal certain qualities about a cigar. Especially spicy blends will have a kick, milder blends will taste neutral and cigars with young, raw tobacco may have offensive flavor in a cold taste.

Of course, we would never judge a cigar until after it's smoked. But a cold taste is an insider's way of getting a sneak preview, before you light.

Virtue brings a mellow, tamer yet full-flavored blend to the Man O' War portfolio.

Man O’ War was developed by Abdel "AJ" Fernandez, a Cuban-born cigar maker continuing three generations of tobacco mastery. After spending most of his life working working with premium tobacco in Cuba, Abdel Fernandez moved to Nicaragua to begin producing his own cigars. After only 6 years, Abdel currently produces Rocky Patel’s Fusion, Indian Tabac 10th Anniversary, Padilla Habano, and Sol Cubano Cuban Cabinet. However, of all the cigars produced at Abdel’s factory, he personally considers Man O’ War to be his best blend.

Virtue is one of the smoothest cigars on the market, and easily one of the smoothest concoctions ever created by AJ Fernandez. It contains just the right amount of Nicaragua ligero to give it a light punch to keep all you full-bodied Man O' War fans satisfied, while also utilizing Nicaraguan seco and viso tobaccos for medium-bodied experience that remains smooth and creamy from start to finish. AJ wrapped this beauty with a limited Ecuadorian-grown Connecticut leaf cultivated in 2002, and its thick gauge creates a hearty complexity with a mellow finish.

Why Do Cigars Sometimes Make My Mouth Dry?

A lack of balance. Certain tobaccos dry the mouth, such as olor, a variety of filler tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic. In a seminar one year at the Las Vegas Big Smoke, Davidoff cigarmaker Hendrik Kelner passed out cigars made entirely of olor (save for the wrapper) to show how an out-of-balance smoke tastes. "It makes your mouth dry," he said, "and God made your mouth to work wet." A cigar containing too much olor, he explained, has a drying effect on the palate.

Olor triggers the salty region of the tongue, drying the mouth, while a tobacco such as Dominican San Vicente stimulates the production of saliva. Many cigarmakers strive to create a balanced, complex cigar made with a variety of tobaccos, which stimulate different areas of the tongue.

Of course, even smoking the most balanced of blends is a thirsty business, and there's no shame in quenching that thirst, so long as you make the proper choice.

Oliva G series

Montecristo White Series

Montecristo Classic

Ashton Classic

Romeo Y Julieta Vintage
