Malija uhapsen u Engleskoj, sprema se ekstradicija za Indiju gde ga vec nekoliko godina cekaju zbog multimilionskih pronevera i utaje poreza:

Indian media are reporting that Force India F1 boss (and India’s representative on the FIA World Motor Sport Council) Vijay Mallya was arrested this morning in England and will soon appear in Westminster Magistrates’ court.

In February India’s Ministry of External Affairs sent an extradition request to the British Home Office and this was endorsed by the Home Secretary and sent on to Westminster Magistrates’ Court. It is believed that Mallay’s name was one of
nearly 20 on a list that the Indians requested as part of discussions over possible future trade deals, in the wake of Brexit. The British are desperate to find some big trading partners and so handing over a few fugitives is a small price to pay in the circumstances.

The charges against Mallya in India relate to his defaulting on loans of $1.4
billion. Mallya is currently stuck in the UK without a passport as his Indian passport has been cancelled and he is unableto hold another unless he revokes his Indian citizenship. He must also find a country willing to issue him a new passport. He was recently removed as the chairman of the Federation of
Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) but continues to be India’s representative
on the FIA World Motor Sport Council, although he cannot attend meetings.

Force India is a team that effectively runs itself these days but Mallya has been required to raise money when that is required. His arrest, if confirmed, will be an embarrassment for the sport. The word is that the team is for sale but that the owners (Mallya and his trouble partner Subrata Roy of Sahara) want $250 million for the business. It is highly unlikely that anyone will pay that price. The adverse publicity will make it harder for the team to be sold and to find sponsorship. The team is funded largely with prize money, but recently sold a $15 million sponsorship deal to Austrian water treatment company BWT.

Taman da se pridruzi svom ortaku i suvlasniku Subarti Roju koji je na robiji vec par godina.

Vijay Mallya responded to the reports of his arrest with the following Tweet: “Usual Indian media hype. Extradition hearing in Court started today as expected”.

The Metropolitan Police, however, did issue a statement as follows:

“Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Extradition Unit have this morning, Tuesday 18 April, arrested a man on an extradition warrant,” it said. “Vijay Mallya, 61 (18/12/1955), was arrested on behalf of the Indian authorities in relation to accusations of fraud. He was arrested after attending a central London police station, and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today, 18 April”.

So Vijay Mallya was arrested this morning. There was no police chase, nor a raid on his house, nonetheless he was place under arrest.

So where’s the hype in that?

Ovo je zanimljivo

Brabham supercar and F1 team mooted

Following Force India owners Vijay Mallya and Subrata Roy's troubles, the Formula 1 team may be sold to Brabham

There are plans for a Brabham-branded supercar, which would be promoted by a new Brabham Formula 1 team, following the McLaren business model.

The project would involve the purchase of the Force India F1 team, which is doing well at the moment, but will soon be sold because the two owners both have serious legal troubles in India. The main protagonist, Vijay Mallya, was recently placed under arrest in England on an extradition warrant.

Mallya was released on bail but now faces an extradition hearing on May 18. His partner in Force India, Subrata Roy, has similar (but larger) troubles in India and has spent much of the last two years in jail. Neither of them can realistically continue with Formula 1, but they want between £200 million and £270m for the team, and so selling it has not been easy. Reports suggest that they may have to accept as little as £150m, although one of the bidders may be willing to pay over the odds to secure the sale.

The price of the F1 teams will only rise if the new owners Liberty Media is able to convince all the teams to reduce costs and to move towards a franchise model. If that happens, the value of the teams will skyrocket. As Formula 1 is now listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange, interest in the sport is growing, particularly in the US investment market, where sports franchises are deemed to be very valuable.

The Brabham revival is believed to be backed by money from US investors and the plan is for the Silverstone-based team to be rebranded and used to promote a supercar company. This would be similar in concept to McLaren's business plan, which has proved to be very successful in the course of the last 25 years.

David Brabham, the son of three-time World Champion Sir Jack Brabham, is a former Formula 1 driver and Le Mans winner, and also won the Bathurst 1000 in Australia and was twice American Le Mans Series champion. In recent years he has been quietly working on securing all the necessary Brabham trademarks, with what he calls Project Brabham. He is not denying that there is a project.

"Brabham is a brand with more than 69 years of racing heritage and it is our intention to see the name back on track," he said. "Since Project Brabham was launched, we have received a lot of enquiries from different parties who have expressed an interest in licensing the name and we are evaluating a number of options. We have no further comment."

Sir Jack Brabham was the only man ever to win the Formula 1 World Championship in a car of his own construction (in 1966). The Brabham team was started in 1962 and took part in nearly 400 Grands Prix, winning 35 of them and four World Championships with Brabham himself, Denny Hulme (1967) and Nelson Piquet (1981 and 1983). In 1972, the team was acquired by Bernie Ecclestone, who ran it until the late 1980s when he moved on to take over the commercial rights for Formula 1.

Force India finished fourth in the World Championship last year on a budget of only around £105m. More than half of its income derives from prize money, with an additional 40% from sponsorship deals, leaving the owners to top up the funding if it's required. If F1 team budgets are reduced, the money will become profit.

Ovo je dobar znak, ili mazanje javnosti.

2017 F1: Mallya troubles won't hurt Force India

May 5 (GMM) Bob Fernley says team boss Vijay Mallya's legal troubles will not affect Force India.

As deputy boss, Fernley has been left in charge of the race team while former Indian billionaire Mallya, also the team co-owner, is unable to travel after having his passport seized.

Now, the Indian government is trying to extradite the flamboyant 61-year-old, but Fernley insists all is well with the F1 team.

"Vijay has always been the subject of a lot of speculation over many years and it never had the slightest impact on the team," he told France's Auto Hebdo.

"This new episode will have no more impact than the others," Fernley added.

Force India finished the 2016 season in an admirable fourth place, despite having one of the smallest budgets on the grid.

The Silverstone based team has now started 2017 well, but Fernley says the gap from the top of the grid to the midfield has blown out.

"The top three teams are out of reach because of their ability to spend," he said.

"When you spend a third of the EUR 300 million that the big teams do, you can't aspire to those top places. But don't detect any frustration in my remarks -- it's just an observation."

Džaba ima istorijsko ime kad je go *****.

Force India can target Red Bull and its third place in the Formula 1 constructors' championship once its introduced its upgrade for the Spanish Grand Prix, believes Bob Fernley.

Though Force India is currently fourth in the F1 standings and drivers Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon have both finished in the points at all four races so far, those results have come despite the likes of Renault, Williams, Haas and Toro Rosso showing superior race pace.

Strong racecraft and strategy have helped Perez and Ocon achieve those results, but Force India's deputy team principal Fernley believes the aerodynamic upgrades due for Barcelona will mean it can beat its current rivals on raw pace and start to look ahead.

Asked by Autosport if Force India could now target Red Bull, Fernley replied: "If everything works to plan from Barcelona, that's where we can reassess it.

"We mustn't forget the other teams are not standing still either, so we need to just be cautious on that.

"The first objective is to make sure we can consolidate the fourth place, and deliver that.

"Then if we can from a performance point of view keep moving it through, it will be ideal.

"It's been quite a tremendous run for four races.

"Hopefully in Barcelona we can bolt on that missing performance and then we can go toe-to-toe with the others."

Fernley believes the way Force India has maximised its chances when on the back foot so far, plus how quickly Ocon has settled in after joining from Manor, bodes very well for the rest of 2017.

"Right from day one we set our stall out in Australia knowing we had a slight performance deficit, with a view to using racecraft, strategy and reliability to overcome that - and that's what we've done," he said.

"[Ocon] is doing a super job. He's still learning when it comes to the qualifying and going through the first part of the weekend.

"What is super is the maturity that he shows in the first part of the race.

"And that's been there from the start - he's a remarkable racer.

"From our point of view that's where we gain the points, and we can help him with the other bits.

"Sochi was the first weekend when he got into Q3, and he's been the in the points in four races.

"It doesn't get an awful lot better than that for a team where we are."

"I think by the time we get to Silverstone we will see both drivers absolutely pushing hard, and from our side it will be very exciting.

"If we can just get that performance deficit dealt with, I think it could be an incredibly exciting second half of the season."

Force India is considering changing its name to take on a more "international flavour" and make the Formula 1 team more attractive to potential new sponsors, says boss Vijay Mallya.

Mallya bought the outfit that was known as Jordan, Midland and Spyker, and rebranded it Force India in 2008, aiming to bring Indian sponsors and a driver from the nation into F1.

Force India has progressed up the field, finishing a career-best fourth in the constructors' championship last year and it currently holds that position after seven races in 2017.

But while it has delivered impressive performances and added sponsors, such as water technology specialist BWT this season, the team has not had much success bringing Indian companies onboard.

"There is a growing feeling that maybe since we are a much-improved team in terms of performance and attracting more international sponsors, and sadly less Indian sponsors, there is a debate as to why the name should not be changed to give it a more international flavour," Mallya said.

"There are some people who believe the current name Force India is restrictive psychologically.

"I'm considering along with the other shareholders what steps to take but it's a major decision and one that is not going to be taken in a hurry without due consideration.

"More importantly, we have to look at the way the F1 scenario is unfolding under Liberty ownership.

"If they follow the NFL model, then of course the name becomes even more important because it's a franchise model where the focus is on the name.

"But the current pattern may continue.

"These are all issues I'll consider with the other shareholders before arriving at any final conclusion."

This is not the first time Force India has considered a name change, coming close to rebranding itself as Aston Martin Racing for 2016, only for the deal to collapse at the final hurdle.

Mallya said there was a "proposal on the table" from a sponsor regarding the name change while adding the team is in "negotiations for some additional sponsorships as well".

He said the fact he is considering a name change has "absolutely" nothing to do with his current legal situation.

Authorities in India are chasing Mallya for around £900million they claim he owes in the wake of the collapse of one of his businesses, Kingfisher Airlines, in 2013.

Mallya had his diplomatic passport revoked last April, with a warrant issued for his arrest, and he has since been residing in the UK.

"The fact the country of India and me are not the best partners is something that has been going on for a few years now," said Mallya.

"This is nothing new. I haven't in the last few years considered any name change.

"It's purely to do with current sponsorship, a proposal on the table and sponsorship going forward for the team."

Ne bih rekao, tu ni jedna strana nema kintu, jedino ako "mladi" Brabham (David mislim?) ne proda ćaletovo ime za džabe... On kao investitor je 0 a Mallya je dužan na sve strane.
