Jko mi je zao trenutne situacije u Vilijamsu, jako ga volim i postujem i ovo sve mi jako tesko pada.

Robert Kubica had enough opportunities to prove he was capable of making a competitive racing comeback in Formula 1 this season, says Karun Chandhok.

Ex-F1 driver Chandhok said it was "a shame" Kubica did not get the race seat but felt he had an adequate chance to prove his credentials.

"It's a shame for him, but I think they gave him plenty of opportunities to really prove that he deserves a seat in a meritocratic way," said Chandhok, who was speaking during a live podcast recording at Autosport International.

"I can't think of many other drivers who have had this many opportunities with two teams to test and prove themselves capable of having a race seat.

"I don't think you can say he hasn't had a fair chance to be evaluated.

"I know Robert quite well. We've been friends since we raced together in World Series in 2005 and he's a great lad and at his peak before his accident he was utterly brilliant.

"But the reality is teams can't hire drivers based on the past, they have to hire drivers based on their circumstances and their performance today.

"It's a shame for the sport and for Robert obviously that it's not worked out."

Jer, ako jeste, onda mu je mesto u jednom od top 3-4 tima i tu nema diskusije. Ako nije, onda prestanite vise da zajebavate i njega i nas.

On fizički može iizdržati napore trkačkog vikenda, jedino službeno saopštenje povodom njegovog tempa je

Kubica still takes 'personal satisfaction' from reserve role

Robert Kubica insists he will still take "personal satisfaction" from his new reserve and development driver role with Williams this season.

Having been targeting the vacant race seat alongside Lance Stroll, Kubica was named as Williams reserve on Tuesday as Sergey Sirotkin was confirmed as Stroll's teammate. The Pole will carry out a number of track sessions in his new role, with Williams confirming appearances in pre-season testing, in-season testing and during Friday practice at certain race weekends.

While Kubica has already stated his main aim is to make a racing return to Formula 1 following his rally accident in 2011, he says the reserve and development position is one that still motivates him.
 
"Of course times have changed in Formula 1, so there is a bit less action and much more simulator work," Kubica said. "I will be working to try and improve the car and trying to help the team in the simulator but also some activities on the racetrack in order to be in a position to give better feedback and try to help the team.

"Having been given the chance to drive a Formula 1 car and actually seeing that I am able to do it was probably one of the best days of my life. I will have a bit of time in the car, behind the wheel, so I am looking forward to that, for sure. But I am also looking forward to trying to help the guys in the simulator to get better, to improve the sim and get it as close as possible to reality.

"I would like to thank all the supporters and fans, not only in Poland but around the whole world were cheering for me. Polish fans were following me everywhere! It's a bit of a different role to racing but I think I can have personal satisfaction and personal goals for this year."

Sergey Sirotkin's father says the young Russian secured the Williams seat because he was "stronger" than Robert Kubica.

Many Williams, F1 and Kubica fans are disappointed and angry that the British team signed the heavily backed Sirotkin over Pole Kubica, whose F1 career was halted seven years ago due to injury.

But Sirotkin's father Oleg told Tass news agency: "Sergey proved to be stronger than Kubica in testing, both in qualifying and racing mode.

"Sergey was also tested on the simulator where he demonstrated very good knowledge. He gives feedback above the level of other young drivers before him," Sirotkin snr added.

Williams finished fifth overall last year, but some question whether 2018 drivers Lance Stroll and Sirotkin - with a combined age of 41 - can do equally well.

Sirotkin's father Oleg continued: "The task is to keep the team's fifth position, because the situation is now more complicated.

"McLaren is going to Renault engines and they have always produced one of the best chassis. Renault has been preparing its car for this season for about two years, so they will also be faster, so the competitors will be Force India, Renault and McLaren," he said.

"I think Williams has good potential for growth," said Sirotkin snr. "Yes, they have young drivers now, but in a year or two they will be even stronger."

A jebiga, toliko je surov svet F1 da jedan sirovi talenat od coveka vozaca se mora zadovoljiti s mestom testera.

 

Pazi, mi ne znamo u kakvom je zaista Kubica stanju. Znamo kakav je bio, i da je jos uvek takav bilo bi ludilo ne dati mu da vozi. Ali ako postoje problemi sa fizikom onda jebiga, on vise nema sta da trazi u F1.

 

Zato mi je krivo sto Vilijams krije rezultate testova pa nemamo cistu sliku situacije. Ova izjava Sirotkina starijeg ako je istina potvrdjuje da Kubica ima porbleme sa fizikom (makar kakav bio talenat Sirotkin on u ovoj fazi svoje karijere ne moze biti bolji od zdravog Kubice) no mi to ne znamo, jer izjava moze da se tumaci i po onoj "Ciga hvali svoga konja".

 

A u celoj prici su mi najmanje jasni Kubicino prihvatanje uloge testera i izjave za medije kako mu je to bas superiska.

Williams reserve driver Robert Kubica will need "earn the right" to a Formula 1 race seat in 2019, according to the team's chief technical officer Paddy Lowe.

Kubica, who ranked among F1's top drivers before a rally crash injury disrupted his grand prix racing career in 2011, mounted a sustained effort last year to return to the grid.

He tested with Renault and Williams, and was at one point a strong favourite to land a seat with the latter, but eventually lost out to rookie Sergey Sirotkin and instead took on a reserve and development role with the Grove-based team.

Asked during an SMP/Williams event in Moscow what exactly Kubica was missing in his quest to be an F1 race driver again, Lowe told Motorsport.com: "I think, to further put it in a different way, Robert has been on a journey to find his way back to Formula 1, from the trauma that occurred to his arm in the rally accident.

"And all credit to him, it's required an incredible commitment, a lot of bravery and a lot of dedication to that objective. And he's on that journey, and I think with us this next year as the development driver that journey will continue.

"Ultimately, it's not always about what's missing - it's a competitive market, to obtain a race seat. There are many more very, very talented drivers than there are seats.

"And Robert would want it no other way. He's got to earn the right to the race seat, whatever race seats may be available in 2019."

It has been widely reported that Kubica fared worse than Sirotkin in the Williams FW40 in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi, and that he was let down by single-lap pace in particular.

Pressed on where exactly Kubica needed to make gains, Lowe said: "I'm not going to talk about that. We've done a lot of work with many drivers in this selection process.

"We picked Sergey on the full range of his performance, against many drivers, not just Robert. He was the clear favourite."

As part of his 2018 Williams role, Kubica will take part in pre-season and in-season testing and grand prix weekend practice sessions.

He will undertake a "substantial amount" of simulator work, with Lowe stating it will be "of the same scale as a race driver or any of our simulator development drivers."

"The point here is that Robert will be a contributing member of the technical team, not a guy that's just sitting there, waiting on a subs bench," Lowe added.

"We're giving him time in the car and he will spend time in the simulator, and the whole point is that he can help us develop the car and fully support the race drivers in their race programme."

Lowe also said he was certain Kubica would perform at a high level if called upon to substitute one of the team's race drivers.

"He would be fine, we're very confident of that. Otherwise he wouldn't be our reserve driver, if we didn't think he was competent to race...
 
"And not just competent, able to perform well in the race, to race competitively."

Calling Sergey Sirotkin a pay-driver is a "pure lie", is the claim of Boris Rotenberg, the Russian billionaire who is widely credited for being the new Williams driver's financial backer.

Rotenberg, the co-founder of SMP Bank, also runs SMP Racing, a driver programme he says is similar to Red Bull's.

SMP also has its own sports car prototype, the BR1, and Rotenberg admitted entering a team in F1 one day is "a dream".

"I've always said that we do not strive for formula one because it is a very political story and it doesn't work if support from various sides is lacking," he told the Russian publication Fontanka.

For now, Rotenberg says he is happy to have got Sirotkin all the way to the F1 grid.

He defends the 22-year-old amid revelations he brings a reported EUR 20 million to the Williams seat.

"He was faster than Kubica," Rotenberg insisted.

"That is for those people who say he (Sirotkin) bought a place for himself. That is a pure lie.

"The boy has been working for this for five years since he joined the programme. Finance cannot play the decisive role."

Rotenberg admits that SMP Racing is paying Williams, but he insists it will "go to the development of the car".

"Naturally there are costs. Motor sport is not cheap. It is not a toy for me to amuse myself," he said.

Sirotkin was Renault's reserve driver last year, and so one might think Rotenberg would prefer the rookie had been promoted to race driver with the French works team.

"No," he insists. "Williams is a historically more important team. It is more focused on the result."

Rotenberg also denied that the presence at Williams of Lance Stroll, whose billionaire father Lawrence is an influential figure, might complicate the task for Sirotkin.

"I don't think so," he answered.

"It is clear that although they are one team, on the track it is every man for himself.

"I have told him (Sirotkin) that every race should be regarded as his last, even if we will be there helping to make the Williams car go faster," said Rotenberg.

O bože, novinarima je smrtno dosadno u međusezoni. Vreme će pokazati da li je dobar ili ne. Glupo je poređenje no gotovo ista situacija. Vilijams je 2011 godine izbacio Hulkenberga zarad Maldonada, Pastor se pokazao kao katastrofa ali ipak pobedio je na jednoj VN. Imao je brzinu ko đavo ali je bio nekonzistetan. Isto tako i s Sirotkinom, može biti dobar ali mislim da nemož biti veća katastrofa od Palmera, na primer. Zarad Vilijamsovog dobra verujem u Sirotkina/Strola. I Strol je čudo od vozača, samo treba profunkcionisati. Treće mesto u Baku i prvi startni red u Monci zarađen po jakoj kiši govore puno o njemu.

 

Mladi agresivni vozači i prvi Vilijamsov konvecionalni bolid u turbo/hibrid eri (nema više "sapun" aerodinamike), što bi reko Klarkson iz Top Gira "šta bi moglo krenuti po zlu?".

Williams Formula 1 team's chief technical officer Paddy Lowe says Sergey Sirotkin was "the best driver available" for the seat alongside Lance Stroll in the outfit's 2018 line-up.

Former Renault reserve Sirotkin, who is backed by Russian programme and reportedly brings a financial package worth around £15million, emerged as favourite to replace Felipe Massa in the Grove-based team following a strong showing in the Abu Dhabi test.

Robert Kubica, Paul di Resta, Daniil Kvyat and Pascal Wehrlein were among the other contenders for the drive.

"We selected him as the best driver available to us, bar none," Lowe told Motorsport.com.

"We're confident that he will be very quick, very consistent, very calm in his working - and I think these qualities will take him a long way, to do really well in this championship."

Sirotkin and teammate Stroll will make up one of the least experienced pairings on the 2018 grid, with only the Toro Rosso pair having fewer combined grand prix starts.

Lowe, however, rejected the suggestion that Williams' choice of line-up was a gamble.

"I wouldn't describe it as a gamble. We understand that there are some disadvantages. I guess, for Sergey, there is a learning curve around that first year, particularly with some of the circuits he hasn't been to before.

"But, you know, his performance stands in its own right."

He added: "At the same time, we're investing - one of the advantages of a younger driver is, if it's a great driver, you're investing in a long-term future and a long-term success that that can bring to him and to the team.

"So I think we prefer to see that in Sergey we found a rising star, and we hope to work with him in the long-term and enjoy a lot of success together."

Stroll and fellow 2017 rookie Stoffel Vandoorne both struggled against their vastly more experienced teammates during the early races of the campaign – but Lowe believes there is no reason why Sirotkin should endure a difficult start this year.

"We don't want to drive too much expectation, but we're confident that Sergey will drive well, he's shown himself able to do that, in our car and also in series in the past.

"I mean, he was the best rookie in his first season in F2 [GP2], he came third, that was the best rookie result of that year. I think that stands as a good example of what he can do."

Lowe admitted that being an F1 rookie was "certainly not easier" now than it had been in the past, but backed Sirotkin to adapt quickly.

"The tyres are more difficult, and these cars are performing at the peak levels ever seen in the sport, so that must add its challenges.

"But at the same time, we saw what Sergey can do in the car when we put him in there in Abu Dhabi, and those features didn't seem to let him down at all, didn't seem to hold him back, so we're confident he'll do a great job."
