Entry lists for the first week of 2017 are out

Entry lists for the first week of the 2017 WTA season are out, highlighted by No.1 Angelique Kerber's commitment to the Brisbane International and Serena Williams and Venus Williams playing an International-level tournament together for the first time since 1998.

The Brisbane International serves as the only Premier event of the first week of the season and the field is packed with five of the Elite Eight from the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. A finalist last year, Kerber leads the field along with Singapore champion Dominika Cibulkova, Karolina Pliskova, Garbiñe Muguruza, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Carla Suárez Navarro, Elina Svitolina, and Elena Vesnina. Also in the Brisbane field are Roberta Vinci, who recently announced her intention to play through another season, the Gold Coast's own Samantha Stosur, Olympic Gold Medalist Monica Puig, Zhang Shuai, and Eugenie Bouchard.

Serena and Venus have opted to kick off their season at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand, leading the most star-studded line-up in the tournament's history. In addition to the Williamses, defending champion Sloane Stephens, last year's finalist Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, and Lucie Safarova have also entered Auckland.

Over in China, defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska returns to the Shenzhen Open along with 2014 champion Simona Halep, Johanna Konta, and Timea Bacsinszky.

Madison Keys isn't playing any pre-AO event. Also Vika, for obvious reasons.

14 of the WTA top 20 are playing *both* pre-AO weeks in 2017. Gosh.

The Future is here!

U predstojecoj noci,u Oklendu, prvi medjusobni mec odigrace Naomi Osaka i Anja Konjuh.

Mozda i tu treba traziti razloge neke stagnacije.
