Mercedes set to enter Formula E after agreeing 2018/19 deal

Toto Wolff expresses delight with Merc set to start fifth season

Formula 1 champions Mercedes could enter the Formula E series in 2018/19 after taking an option to be one of two new teams.

The group have signed an option to enter the all-electric series for its fifth season. There are currently 10 teams competing in Formula E with that number set to rise to 12 subject to approval of the FIA.

"We have been watching the growth of Formula E with great interest," confirmed Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff.

"At the current time, we are looking at all the options available in the future of motor racing, and we are very pleased with an agreement that secures us an opportunity to enter the series in Season 5.

"Electrification will play a major role in the future of the automotive industry. Racing has always been a technology R&D platform for industry and this will make Formula E very relevant in the future."


The fifth season is set to be a milestone for Formula E with battery development expected to allow drivers to complete races in one car rather than having to switch to a second one mid-race.

Car manufacturers such as Renault, Audi, BMW, and Jaguar and India's Mahindra are all currently involved and set to continue, with the 2016/17 season starting in Hong Kong this weekend.

Berlin ePrix reverts to Tempelhof Airport

The Berlin ePrix, which takes place on June 10, will return to the historic Tempelhof Airport in the German capital on a revised version of the track that will be revealed shortly.

The race has reverted to its original location following consultation with the Berlin authorities, who were instrumental in ensuring that the all-electric series remained in the German capital.

Commenting on the news, the governing mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller said: “Motorsport with electric motors is an advertisement for innovative technologies and sustainable urban mobility. Electromobility is the key to environmentally friendly transport in the cities of the 21st century, including Berlin. I am therefore delighted that Formula E continues to take place here. The event thrills motorsport fans and proves - in a spectacular way, in front of a special backdrop - the performance of this technology to a wide audience.”

Formula E fans who have already purchased grandstand tickets for the Karl-Marx-Allee circuit will have their tickets relocated to a Category 1 grandstand at Tempelhof, and will also be given access to a special pit walk on race day. Ticketmaster Germany will contact all ticket holders with further information once the grandstand configuration and pit walk timings are finalised for the new venue.

Tempelhof hosted the inaugural Berlin ePrix in 2015. Jarno Trulli scored the only pole position of his and the Trulli team’s Formula E career, while Lucas di Grassi won the race on the road only for his car to fail post-race scrutineering, handing a maiden win to Dragon Racing’s Jerome D’Ambrosio.

 

Konačno se i ovo rešilo. EPri Berlina je bila pod pitanjem još ranije nakon uloženog protesta građana sličnog kao onaj koji je na koncu oterao Batersi Park i u konačnici London iz kalendara. 

Podsetiću, Tempelhof je ispao iz kalendara prošle sezone jer je služio kao sklonište azilantima.

 

S druge strane, lokacija za ePri Brisela nije još pronađena a prethodna dva predloga staza su izbačena jer prvi predlog s pistom oko Automiuma se podudara s nekim festibalom a drugi predlog su građani uspešno oterali jer naime koristi glavne puteve koji ometaju u velikoj meri saobraćaj. Spominje se Hamburg kao zamena za Brisel a meni nije jasno što Cirih nije upao jer su se opasno "zapenili" za FE. Sredstva, infrastruktura staze ne može se pripremiti na vreme ili nešto treće. Priznajem i ja sam žestoko zapaljen za ePri u Švajcarskoj.

 

Na kraju krajeva sa ovim katastrofalnim organizacijama dokazuje se velika želja organizatora za ugoštavanje FE u njihovom gradu, makar to razljutilo građane. Pre par dana Alejandro Agag je razgovarao sa gradonačelnicom Rima Virdžinijom Rađi (prva ikad ženska gradonačelnica tog grada) i sa još viših predstavnika te su dogovorili da će (ako se zaista desi) u aprilu 2018. godine Rim ugostiti inauguralni ePri. Ovo je već drugi pokušaj Rima da se nađe u kalendaru, činjenica je da smo trebali svedočiti ePri Rima još u prvoj sezoni ali to je propalo ("sporazum" je uspostavljen još 2012. godine).

 

Zanimljivo da je ovo još jedan šamar Formuli 1 jer je u više navrata Rim trebao ugostiti VN ali se to nikada nije desilo, prvi je zadala ePri Londona▼

Ovaj predlog odbačen nakon što je bivši gradonačelnik Điani Alemano prebacio fokus na OI a poslednji ekser na kovčegu je ukucala Monza s produžetkom ugovora do 2016. Da ironija bude veća upravo na tom mestu će se održati prva ikad ePri Rima s naravno drukčijom konfiguracijom. Predstavljen predlog staze sadrži 19 krivina, dugačka je 3.1 km i vozi se obrnuto od kazaljke sata.

Trka za VN Rima ima dugu tradiciju koja pocinje nedugo nakon VN Italije (prvi nacionalni Granpri vozen je 1921, prva VN Rima 1925.), nakon rata je obnovljena, doduse u kategoriji F2, uz par izuzetaka - 1954. i 1963. vozena je kao F1 trka van sampionata. U ranom periodu je uglavnom vozena na ulicnim varijantama, sto po predgradjima Rima, sto po blizoj i daljoj okolini, a od 1963. pa do za sada poslednje trke 1991. se vozilo na Valelungi.

 

Ovi skoriji pokusaji da se organizuje ulicna F1 trka u Rimu su cisto politicka prica, naime cilj je da se u najlepsem svetlu svetu prezentira EUR, cetvrt Rima izgradjena po viziji Musolinija kao idealno naselje koje odslikava fasisticki duh. Ideja za organizovanje trke ovde je dosla od tadasnjeg gradonacelnika Djanija Alemana, neofastiste i u mladosti clana nekoliko ekstremistickih organizacija. Iako je Berni bio vrlo otvoren za ovu ideju (jer Monca zbog svog istorijskog statusa placa manje nego vecina ostalih staza) ideja ipak nije zadobila siru podrsku i tiho je nestala s prestankom Alemanovog mandata...

Spark Racing Technology has won the official tender submitted but the FIA to supply the season five chassis from 2018 onwards.

In 2013, the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) officially appointed Spark Racing Technology as the car supplier for the Formula E Championship since the series’ first season. Then in 2016, the FIA put chassis supply for season 5 (2018-2019) out to tender.

Successor of the SRT01 (first version of the car), the new SRT05e represents a considerable progress in the world of electric racing.

Spark engineers took advantage of 4 years of Formula E championship to increase the performance of this new car. Equipped with a futuristic design, the SRT05e is much more powerful.

Spark has to develop this new chassis. This is a new challenge for Spark as the new car must go twice the distance of the current cars, which will be accomplished by more efficient aero design, lower weight and better efficiency in the drivetrain. Safety and innovation are the main drivers of this project. We will design a new chassis including a new battery tech that will be heavier. In order to gain 10% weight, we are working on new innovating solutions using new materials so the cars can be more efficient and we also have to focus on new developments to keep the drivers safe.

Dubai is planning to participate in Formula E races for 2018 in Jumeirah

Formula E would like to race a race in the Middle East, which has been known for a long time. It seems now to crystallize, that the surcharge for an ePrix at Dubai could go. As 'edgardaily.com' reports, the electric racing series could already be driving in the United Arab Emirates in 2018. This could mean season four or season five, depending on when a Dubai ePrix would be anchored in the race calendar. How serious the source is, we can not judge. In addition to the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi, it would be the second major race event in the United Arab Emirates.

According to the report, the Formula E race will take place on the streets of the city quarter Jumeirah. Kite Beach and the "new channel" are in talks as potential locations. Dubai, with its spectacular skyline including Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, would be another highlight in the Formula E racing calendar and serve a geographically important market for the FIA.

Already in 2014, Alain Prost, team manager at the later championship team, Renault e.dams, had expressed a potential Dubai ePrix: "I know that the organizers of Formula E spoke to people from Dubai, a race there would be fantastic Because the region would be well suited for Formula E. A Formula E race would fit perfectly into the recently announced "Green Vision" of Dubai. The environmental program is designed to raise awareness of sustainability in the Emirates. Mali uvod za trku koja predstoji- 2017 ePri Buenos Ajresa.

 

 

Treća runda treće sezone može nam doneti uzbudljivu trku sudeći po ranijim izdanjima ali sagledavši prve dve trke aktuelne sezone i potpunu dominaciju Sebastijena Buemija i Reno e.Damsa izgleda da će se to promenuti. Prva ikad ePri Buenos Ajresa je možda jedna od najuzbudljivijih trka Formule E u istoriji sa pregršt udesa, kolapsa vešanja koja je odnela puno velikih protagonista, zaobilaženja a Hajdfeldovim navijačima po koji put je uskratila sreću prve pobede (sa solidnim vođstvom dva kruga pre kraja dobio je drajv tru kaznu zbog prebrze vožnje u pitu- nije on kriv nego softver drugog bolida) no nju je uzeo Antonio Feliks Da Košta u takoreći "backmarker" bolidu. Amlin Aguriju je to jedina pobeda i postolje u FE. 

Drugu trku Buenos Ajresa je obeležio Sebastijen Buemi s velikim povratkom i drugim mestom, mada je čak mogao i pobediti.

 

Staza nudi vozačima razne izazove upravo zbog velike različitosti krivina. Prva krivina je ukosnica i jedno je od mesta za preticanje, treća krivina je vrlo dugačka i "flatout" te se nastavlja na četvrtu krivinu lakat konfiguracije. Ovo je isto omiljeno mesto za preticanje kao i ukosnica koja sledi te sedma krivina V konfiguracije. Nakon sedme dolazi vrlo zeznuta šikana koja je kao recepat za katastrofu, ako je "preživiš" nailaziš na kompleks S krivina za koje se smatra da su ikona Formule E i mnogi je smatraju kao ulična verzija Megots- Bekets- Čepel sekcije iz Silverstona a takve krivine su retkost ovog šampionata. Rekord kruga drži Žerom de Ambrozio s 1:11.048.

Vremenska prognoza je vrlo zanimljiva, po svemu sudeći čeka nas prvi ikad kišni ePri. Ako ne padne tokom trke biće makar kišne kvalifikacije, no asfalt i dalje može biti mokar za vreme trke.

Ni vozači ni timovi nisu obeležili ovu sesiju ali zato su dva skupljača drezge tik pored startnog pravca "ukrala šou"

Snimio sam najbolje momente s nabrijavanja ali secka ne zbog Bendikema nego zbog službenog strima koji je bio užasan, čak su onboard snimci seckali te se stalno gubio signal od krivina 3 do 5.
