To the Editor:

In focusing on scientific explanations for dark energy (“Quest for Dark Energy May Fade to Black,” Jan. 4), you overlook a possible social explanation.

It seems implausible that human beings represent the only advanced civilization in the universe (if I may flatter us by calling us advanced). If indeed we are not alone, then, as Fermi asked, “where are the aliens?”

My modest proposal is that the aliens are the cold dark matter that makes up 23 percent of the energy in the universe. Adept at cloaking themselves, they are invisible under any force that can be shielded, including strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions. Absent a breakdown in their cloaking mechanism, we are unlikely to detect them directly.

The gravitational force cannot be shielded, however. Whatever they are made of, the aliens cannot prevent their mass from altering the rotation curves of the galaxies they inhabit.

While not actively hostile, the aliens would prefer not to live in our neighborhood. Whatever it is made of, the dark energy is their way of suggesting, politely but firmly, that we leave. Dark energy is simply the mechanism for “alien flight” in the cosmic real estate market.

Seth Lloyd je uvek bio malko "udaren" (mislim, on je licno krstio taj svoj centar, to sve govori), ali ono sto ne kapiram jeste zasto je resio da pise NYT, osim ako nije u pitanju prvoaprilska sala usred januara. To sto je napisao nije sasvim liseno smisla, mada vise deluje kao pokusaj humora.

Slucajno sam naleteo na casopis "Planeta" - www.planeta.rs - i u jednom od brojeva clanak o "talasoidnom kretanju planeta" i bogu koji to kontrolise!!! Procitajte:

Pitanje za upucene - ko stoji iza ovog casopisa? Tj. ko moze da dozvoli objavljivanje ovakvih idiotskih clanaka u casopisu za nauku i otkrica? Ko je autor - neki zaludjenik ili (daleko bilo) neko ko se bavi naukom ili obrazovanjem?

 

Inace tu i tamo po tekstovima figurise "Tvorac" koji nam je "podario" razne stvari, ali na zalost i neke vanzemaljce istrebio...
