Arai admits the start of 2015 was "like playing whack-a-mole" for Honda because "as soon as we resolved one problem, another popped up".

However, Honda will continue with their 'size zero' packaging this season, despite some in the paddock suggesting it was the cause of much of their reliability woe.

"F1 cars cannot go fast without proper consideration given to air resistance and the way suspensions move," Arai added.

"It's important to minimize the size of power units so that they don't interfere with the car's design. ...McLaren once told us that we don't have to be aggressive in downsizing our power unit. But we are determined to shrink the size by whatever means possible."Arai admits the start of 2015 was "like playing whack-a-mole" for Honda because "as soon as we resolved one problem, another popped up".

Ron Dennis pays tribute to Patty McLaren
Posted on Sunday, 07 Feb 2016 12:30 (GMT)

Ron Dennis (Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Technology Group) said:

"It was with great sadness that I heard the news that Patty McLaren, the widow of our company's founder Bruce, had passed away.

"Patty was a wonderful woman, and, over the 46 years that have elapsed since Bruce's death in a testing accident at Goodwood in the summer of 1970, she has always remained close to the company that bears her husband's name.

"She was especially resolute in the period immediately after Bruce's accident, inspiring 'my boys', as she used to refer to the men who made up the grief-stricken team, not only to keep McLaren alive but also to make it successful.

"We have therefore lost not only a great lady but also a direct link to our company's origins.

"On behalf of all 3000 of us at McLaren, I therefore pay tribute to Patty and offer our heartfelt condolences to her family and many friends.

"May she rest in peace."

Stoffel in Japan
February 12, 2016 by Joe Saward

McLaren-Honda reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne is going to be a very busy fellow this year, with his role with McLaren at all Formula 1 races, plus a schedule of simulator and public relations events for the team. In addition, in order to stay race-fit, he will be racing in the seven rounds of the Super Formula championship in Japan. This will mean missing Monaco to race in Okayama, and Mexico because of a clash with Suzuka. It will also mean some fairly manic travelling. The plus side of the story is that Super Formula has become a very good place to prepare for F1, with the cars being fast and the drivers having to learn about tyre choices and many similar technology as in F1. Stoffel will join the Docomo Team Dandelion Racing operation, replacing Narain Karthikeyan, who has moved to the Le Mans Company, where he will race alongside another former F1 man Kamui Kobayashi. Vandoorne will join Tomoki Nojiri, who will be in his third year with the team. The series was dominated last year by Toyota-engined cars and Honda is keen to win more in 2016.
