Foyt recovering after another killer bee attack

He mastered the treachery of Langhorne, nearly suffocated at Riverside, got burned badly at Milwaukee, survived a blood clot in Michigan and came back from devastating foot and knee injuries at Road America.

But A.J. Foyt's great escapes in race cars almost seem tame compared to his battles with killer bees.

The first four-time Indy 500 winner is recovering at home in Houston after being savagely attacked on Wednesday at his ranch in west Texas. He was repeatedly stung in the face, eyes and neck but managed to find shelter and survived.

For those of you scoring at home, it's either the 29th or 30th time the 83-year-old legend has dodged death.

"It was scary, I won't lie," Foyt told RACER on Thursday evening while sitting in his race shop in Waller, Texas. "I pushed down a tree with my bulldozer and thought I saw a bunch of honey bees but they weren't.

"So I threw it in reverse and got away from them. At least I thought I did. I got off the dozer and had about a block to walk to my truck when they came swarming down on me.

"I started running and made it to my truck and I got the windows down going about 60 mph trying to keep them off my face but they're stinging my eyes and my neck and I'm glad I had a jacket on."

He slammed on the brakes, ran into the ranch house and turned on the cold water. "I stuck my face in ice water because it was burning and it felt like about 500 degrees," he exclaimed.

"I was lucky because those bees sting you until you quit breathing."

He went to the hospital, where his blood pressure was 260 over 116 and the doctors were worried because this was the second bout IndyCar's all-time winner has had with these Africanized killer bees (he was attacked in 2005).

This attack was worse, but he was stabilized and out of the hospital by Thursday afternoon. Then he got revenge.

"They sent my airplane for me but I told them I wasn't going home until I killed those bees," he said. "We got 15 gallons of diesel fuel and dropped it and set those bastards on fire. I felt a lot better after that."

Besides his pain and facial decorations ("I look like I fought Mike Tyson and lost"), the other tough part of this latest drama is that he won't be able to go to Sebring this weekend and be the grand marshal or be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday night.

"I feel bad about that but they've got me on a lot of medication and I don't really feel up to traveling," said the American racing icon. "It's been a tough couple days and I need to rest."

Just another chapter of great escapes from what has to be one of the toughest men alive.

EDIT: Zaboravih da dodam, dokumentarac je označen sa 18+, tj. da nije za mlađe od 18 godine??? Znači čista pornjava...

Sada, ozbiljno, nije mi jasno zašto onda i Dnevnik i ostale vesti ne nose tu oznaku...

Upravo im je tempo u trci i bio brutalan tokom zimskih testova u simulacijama, svi su cekali sansu u kvalifikacijama jer su Mercedesi krili pravu brzinu ko zmija noge. I onda jutros kao fora sve do zadnjeg kruga sve blizu, u par stotinki izmedju njih, RBR i Ferarija, a onda odjednom iz dupeta Hamilton izvuce onakav krug i popravi svoje vreme skoro za sekundu.

Jedina nada je da na ostalim stazama razlika nece biti bas ovako drasticna, jerbo je Melburn po mnogo cemu specifican. Ali slaba je to vajda, sva je prilika da ce Hamilton brutalno da opere ove sezone i da izdominira gore nego Sumaher 2002 i 2004.

Upravo je to razlog zbog kojeg se osećam ko da sam naživo kastriran, bez hebene anestezije. Jutros sam osetio najladniji tuš u 20. godina praćenja F1, gotovo sam sažalio što sam se budio. Ne zbog 0.6s prednosti nad drugime nego što ću to morati trpeti do 2021. godine. Mečka je na prevaru došla do ove dominacije, znali su mnogo ranije od konkurencije za turbo/hibrid eru i uz financijsku inekciju mogu naterati lično Žana Toda da im ljubi cipele. Što je najgore u svemu tome Ferari ih podržava i zajedno s Mečkom bukvalno menjaju pravila F1.

Muka mi je, nikad mi ovako nije bilo mučno i loše u 20. godina praćenja F1. Hamilton će na kurvanjski način dominirati do 2021. godine i povuće se kao vozač kome je najlepše upala kašika u med u celoj istoriji F1 uz srušene mnogobrojne rekorde pa čak i Šumijev niz od 91. pobeda.

Ne znam dali ću više otvarati teme ovde, prestao sam praviti galerije fotografija na Gp1.hr.

Teško sam depresivan.

 

Sutra je trka, fokusiraću se na borbu u sredini poretka po principu "it's something".

Istini za volju Reno je najvise gurao za ove propozicije motora, ne Mercedes. A Ferari je bio protiv.

Monger to make racing return in British F3 this weekend

Teenage racer Billy Monger, who lost parts of both his legs in a Formula Four crash last year, has confirmed he will return to racing in the British F3 series with Carlin.

Monger, 18, will compete on a race-by-race basis for the Carlin team starting with the season-opening round at Oulton Park this weekend.

It will be his first race since his crash at Donington Park on April 16th last year. Monger, unsighted, drove his JHR Developments-run car into the back of Patrick Pasma’s Carlin machine approaching McLean’s corner at over 190kph.

“Excited to announce I’ll be lining up on the grid for the first race of BRDC British F3 this weekend,” Monger announced on social media. “One race at a time for now but hoping to confirm for the rest of the season soon. Thanks Carlin and Bayhar for your continued support.”

Following his crash a crowdfund raised over £800,000 for Monger including contributions from several major figures in motor sport including F1 drivers. He returned to the cockpit less than three months after his crash. Monger uses specially adapted hand control to operate the accelerator, brakes and clutch.

The British F3 championship runs eight triple-header events including rounds at Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and Donington Park. Monger’s team mates will be Nicolai Kjaergaard and Renault F1 team junior racer Sun Yue Yang.

Monger on podium in first F3 race

The amazing story of Billy Monger took another dramatic turn Saturday at the Oulton Park circuit. The 18-year-old Briton, who lost the lower part of both legs in a British F4 accident last April, claimed a podium finish on his British F3 debut.

Monger started fifth, kept his nose clean on the opening lap and then avoided a clash between Krishnaraaj Mahadik and Clement Novalak to climb to third behind Linus Lundqvist and Nicolai Kjaergaard. Although not quite able to match the pace of the lead duo, Monger – making his return to racing after almost a year of recuperation – was never seriously threatened from behind, with Tom Gamble in fourth unable to put him under significant pressure. Monger held a second advantage over his nearest rival for the majority of the race, and when Gamble did reduce the margin, Monger was quickly able to restore it.

Monger received a hero's reception on the podium after the race, after walking onto the podium to collect his trophy.

Polesitter Novalak got plenty of wheelspin at the start, and was passed on the run down to Old Hall on Lap 1 by fellow front-row starter Lundqvist and by teammate Kjaergaard. Holding third midway around the lap, contact between Novalak and Mahadik resulted in Novalak retiring on the spot, delaying Mahadik, and promoting Monger up to third.



The safety car was deployed to cover the incident, with racing resuming at the end of Lap 3. From there it was a straight battle for the lead between the two Scandinavians, with the pair separated by less than a second throughout. Kjaergaard closed the gap toward the end and threatened for the win, before ultimately settling for second.
