Rafa’s granddad stages Kids’ Opera in Mallorca
Rafael Nadal, the best tennis player in the world, has attended the first performance of a Kids’ Opera staged by his grandfather with the same name. He was accompanied by his girlfriend and his uncle Miquel Angel Nadal. Many students flocked to the Trui Theater on Tuesday (26/4) to watch the piece “Brundibar”.
Other famous Spanish sportspeople Xavi Torres and Elena Gómez as well as the Balearic Minister President Fransesc Antich attended the free event that was sponsored by the foundation “Iberostar y Mapfre”.
Grandfather Nadal said that he saw this piece on tv in a version performed by the Parisian opera house and this gave him the idea to show it to a Mallorcan public. He first let it translate into Spanish after which he translated it into Catalan himself.

Rafa Nadal, Just Another ‘Kid’ At Premiere Of Children’s Opera ‘Brundibar’
Tennis player supported production of this piece, conducted yesterday by his grandfather Rafael Nadal at Trui Theatre
World number one in tennis Rafa Nadal realized hundreds of dreams at the Trui Theatre in Palma yesterday. The first one, that of his grandfather Rafael Nadal Nadal, by supporting his staging of the opera ‘Brundibar’ by Hans Krása in Mallorca; but also that of several hundreds of kids who, in addition to enjoying this “children’s musical tale”, returned home with an autograph from or a photo with a recent winner of the Conde de Godó Trophy.
Maestro Rafael Nadal arrived at the premiere on time. “Today is a very special day”, confessed the conductor, who praised the work of the kids from the Choir Sant Josep Obrer – Vermells de la Seu: “They’re exemplary and did a great job working against the clock” managing to show the premiere of ‘Brundibar’ yesterday, the only gap in the agenda of the tennis player, who is now in the midst of his season.
The whole Nadal family gathered around their most popular “Rafaels”. The tennis player was “very happy” for his grandfather “because it was one of the projects he wanted to do. I know it will be an interesting piece for the kids”, he commented upon entering the theatre, where he got a big ovation.
