Nekoliko, zahvaljujući turizmu obogaćenih stanovnika Spa odlučilo je da grad posetiocima mora pružiti još neki sadžaj osim prodavanja vode bogate mineralima i gvožđem. Prvo je otvoren Casino i ovo je u mnogome pomoglo gostima da se, nakon gutanja plemenite vode, oslobode viška plemenitog metala po džepovima.
Istorija auto sporta na obroncima Ardena seže do samog početka prošlog veka. Stazu Spa osmislio je Jules de Thier i posle nekoliko godina postala je jedna od najpopularnijih u kalendaru tadašnjih takmičenja. 1924. organizivan je prvi Grand Prix Belgije kao i čuveni Spa 24 Hours .Originalna 15 km dugačka staza imala je jednu od krivina koje su se vozači najviše plašili i zahtevala je veliku hrabrost i umeće- čuvena Masta Kink. 1966. godine, tokom probnog kruga, Jackie Stewart je izleteo u Masti polomivši nekoliko rebara. Dve godine kasnije staza je bojkotovana od strane vozača i krivina je kasnije izbačena iz F1 šampionata. Ipak, zadržana je u nekim drugim takmičenjima i 1972. tokom 24h touring car trke ispričana je jedna od najbizarnijih i potresnijih situacija u istoriji autosporta. Tog dana poginula su tri vozača ,a Hans-Joachim Stuck je tokom pita i zamene upozoren od timskog kolege Jochena Masse da pazi na delove tela (body parts) koji su razbacani po Masta Kink krivini. Stuck je pri ulasku u krivinu očekivao body parts nekog bolida...u pitanju je bio jedan od maršala trke.
Rekord staze u ovoj konfiguraciji drži Henri Pescarolo u Matri sa prosečnih 262 km/h!!!
U narednih nekoliko godina staza je menjala svoj oblik i 1979. smanjena je na 7 km. I dalje ima dve čuvene krivine koje vozačima predstavljaju veliki izazov. Prva je svakako čuveni Eau Rouge u kojoj su samo najbolji uspevali da prođu „punim gasom“ i Blanchimont u koja se prolazi brzinom od blizu 300 km/h.

Najavljuje se novo skraćenje staze i povezivanje krivina Pouhon i Blanchimont čime bi poprilično osakatili ovo fenomenalno trkalište. Neki od zvaničnika ipak demantuju ovu vest.
Nekoliko vozača ostaće upamćeno po vožnjama na Spa. Schumacher ima šest pobeda, Senna pet , Clark četiri... Ekipno McLaren ima najviše- deset. Od vozača koji su trenutno u F1 Kimi je svakako specijalista za ovu stazu što i potvrđuju sa tri pobede.

Sto se mene tice - jedna od najboljih staza na svetu. Nije vazno ko ce biti prvi i da li ce biti zanimljivo, vazno je samo da vidim bolide kako jurcaju po njoj. :)

Budu li je kastrirali prestacu da gledam F1. :ph34r:

Ako bi bilo po prethodnim rezultatima i tradiciji, RAI je jasni favorit. S obzirom na momentalnu formu i situaciju u timu i na tabeli, očekujem da počne TR. Glasao za MAS.

Rain forecast for Spa weekend

Bad weather is closing in on the Ardennes, with rain now expected to affect all three days of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend.

The rain is due to start today (Thursday) with further downpours expected for the next week. Furthermore, temperatures are expected to rise little more than 16 degrees C over the course of the weekend.

Over the years, mainly due to the circuit's location, and the timing of the event, race fans have witnessed numerous wet races at Spa, one of the most memorable being the 1998 event when 15 cars were involved in an incident at the first corner (La Source). Later in the race, leader Michael Schumacher collided with David Coulthard, an incident which led to the German marching to the McLaren garage and accusing the Scot of trying to kill him. The race was eventually won by Damon Hill, giving Jordan its first ever Grand Prix victory.

The 2005 event, eventually won by Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren), was also hit by heavy rain, and is remembered for Antonio Pizzonia taking out his Williams teammate, Juan Pablo Montoya, who was running second, and Takuma Sato T-boning Michael Schumacher.

While some drivers pitted as many as five times, a one-stop strategy saw Jacques Villeneuve (Sauber) finish sixth. No doubt Renault will be eyeing a similar strategy this weekend.

Spa-Francorchamps tech file


Spa-Francorchamps is the most complete test of a Formula 1 car on the current calendar with every aspect of the vehicle's handling tested to the limit. It combines 320 kph straights with 70 kph hairpins, with several sixth-gear sweepers thrown in for good measure – and, of course, the unique challenge of Eau Rouge.

While this section of the circuit and the fast left-hander at Blanchimont may no longer be as testing as they once were, corners such as Pouhon, taken blind in sixth gear, still allow the drivers to make the difference. And all of that is before you factor in the notoriously unpredictable weather in the Ardennes, which can see the circuit soaked at one end and bone dry at the other.

Chassis
The circuit features a high number of "aero corners" (only 6 of the 19 turns are taken at less than 150 kph), and this would normally push the teams towards relatively high levels of downforce in order to maximise grip in the corners, as is the case at a circuit like Silverstone for example. However, Spa imposes a very different trade-off, because the two long flat-out "straights" on the circuit both provide genuine overtaking opportunities. This means that top-speed is a critical factor in order to protect position, and downforce levels must be determined accordingly. As a result, the teams run with a medium downforce set-up, aiming to achieve end of straight speeds of around 320 kph. Aerodynamic efficiency (generating maximum downforce for minimum drag) is the key to success at this circuit.

Suspension
In terms of suspension settings, the overall compromise is relatively stiff in order to ensure good aerodynamic performance in the quicker corners, and a good change of direction in the quick chicanes. However, good traction is also critical on the exit of the final chicane and La Source hairpin, as poor performance in either part of the circuit can leave a driver vulnerable to overtaking under braking for the next corner.

Tyres
Along with Barcelona, Spa is the most demanding circuit of the season for the tyres, and it is no surprise that Bridgestone will bring the two hardest compounds from its 2008 range for this race: the hard and medium compounds.

Ride heights
Our ride heights are limited by the high forces encountered through the compression in Eau Rouge. From the bottom to the top of the hill, the car's ride height can vary by as much as 25 mm and if the car bottoms out too much, the drivers can lose control. With the V8 engines and the current aerodynamic regulations, Eau Rouge is now taken easily flat out at around 300 kph. The drivers will scrub off around 10 kph through the sequence, but it is important to conserve as much speed as possible in order to maintain position along the long straight before Les Combes.

Brakes
Almost the only part of the car which has a relatively easy time is the braking system. The circuit features just three very heavy braking events, before turns 1, 5 and 18. Overall, though, this is one of the easiest circuits for the brakes owing to the numerous high speed corners that require little braking effort.

Engine
Along with Monza, Spa is the most demanding circuit of the season for the V8 engines. The duty cycle is particularly severe, with 72% of the lap spent at full throttle (only Monza exceeds this figure, with 76% of the lap). Furthermore, this includes two prolonged full throttle periods of over 20 seconds. The most challenging of these is undoubtedly the run of approximately 23 seconds from La Source to Les Combes, which includes Eau Rouge. This sequence exposes the engine and its ancillaries to extreme positive and negative vertical ‘g' forces through the compression and over the crest that follows. This is a factor we take into account when designing our lubrication systems, in order to avoid problems with oil feed under the extreme loadings.

Spa is also the longest lap of the season, and the circuit has a very high fuel mass penalty. Under the current qualifying regulations, this means that an engine with good fuel consumption can be a particular advantage.

Kimi je favorit, ako bude suvo.. Ako se ove prognoze za kisu obistine, Hamilton bi mogao trijumfovati na stazi koja ce cini mi se vise lezati Ferrariju.. Dalje, voleo bih kisu, kako bi se Red Bull nasao ispred Toypte, BMW-a i Reno-a..

2. trening, ALO na benzinskim isparenjima, RAI razbio auto, nema merodavno vreme. Nije loše, samo da ne budu 2 McL na podijumu. Može jedan, a to radije KOV.

Eto, kad Alonso u ovakvom Renou bude najbrzi onda je to na benzinskim isparenjima, tj odmah omalovazavanje, a kad Fetel bude najbrzi u STR onda je to senzacija, dragulj, biser, itd.

Vettel jeste dragulj, a Alonso je pokazao da je trenutno najbolji vozač F1.

Eto, kad Alonso u ovakvom Renou bude najbrzi onda je to na benzinskim isparenjima, tj odmah omalovazavanje, a kad Fetel bude najbrzi u STR onda je to senzacija, dragulj, biser, itd.

Uvek ti je to tako kada su braca "crveni" u pitanju, a niko da pogleda neke druge cinjenice ........ recimo to da je na prosloj trci Vetel imao isti Ferarijev motor kao i Masa/Kimi, ne zelim da umanjim njegovu dobru voznju ali cisto za zapisnik da ono 5-6 mesto na prosloj trci nije nekakva senzacija , bila bi da je bio stari motor.
A sto se tice Alonsa, nisam pratio trening pa nisam nesto upucen u detalje, ali ako sam dobro shvatio, bilo je malo kisice, a ako je tako onda je mozda Alonso odrzao jedan kratki kurs pod nazivom, "kako voziti (sa slikovima) po kisi/vlaznoj stazi" ili nekog slicnog naziva........... izabrati po zelji........

Kakva je vremenska prognoza za nedelju?
